Journalists Evacuate Away From Fukushima Nuclear Plant
A heightened state of emergency near a damaged nuclear power plant is causing journalists from many news organizations to flee the area.
Japan’s Prime Minister Nyoto Kan announced Tuesday morning that a third nuclear reactor at Fukushima 1 nuclear power plant had exploded and a fourth had caught fire, triggering a likely release of radiation.
Though the amount of radiation released isn’t concrete, Kan urged anyone within a 20 kilometer radius to stay indoors.
The announcement was enough for journalists from many news organizations to evacuate away from the Fukushima 1 nuclear power plant.
A producer with Sky News tweeted Tuesday morning that journalists from Sky News, ITN, the BBC and CNN decided to evacuate away from the Fukushima plant as a precaution.
