U.S.: Sarah Palin’s rise to prominence happened fairly quickly
- 2006 Palin’s rise to the GOP’s top tier happened after she defeated former Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski in a Republican primary in 2006. She hadn’t held a state office at that time, and easily won election afterward.
- 2008 Noting really high approval ratings for the Alaska governor, the John McCain campaign takes her on as a vice-presidential candidate. Depending on who you ask, she either ruined or outshone McCain’s bid.
- 2009 Then today, claiming that she wanted to do more for the world outside of government, she unexpectedly resigned. Depending on who you ask, the post was either holding her back or she screwed up. Too early to tell.
