Tech, U.S.: Free speech trumps hate speech for Google In Michelle Obama case

  • Although Google reserves the right to address such requests individ­u­ally, Google views the integrity of our search results as an extremely impor­tant prior­ity. Accord­ingly, we do not remove a page from our search results simply because its content is unpop­u­lar or because we receive complaints concern­ing it.
  • A message from Google • Describ­ing their decision to keep a now-removed racist image of Michelle Obama on the site. It wasn’t for reasons of racism, but rather the integrity of the results. The image, which grotesquely portrayed Obama as a monkey, has since been removed by its Chinese owner, who apolo­gized for putting it online, as well as the contro­versy it caused. source
