Ohio governor to crack down on exotic pets: Probably a good idea for John Kasich, but a better idea would’ve been for this law to already be on the books. Why be reactionary when you can be proactive? Just sayin’.

We know how you feel, macaque. That must’ve been an awful 48 hours for you. :(

msnbc:

It hasn’t been a good day for Ohio.
The sheriff who issued a shoot-to-kill order after dozens of exotic animals — including Bengal tigers, mountain lions and bears — escaped from an Ohio farm defended his decision Wednesday, saying “we were not going to have animals running loose.”
Sheriff Matt Lutz said the owner of Muskingum County Animal Farm near Zanesville appeared to have set the animals free and then taken his own life.

“CAUTION EXOTIC ANIMALS” should be the title of the inevitable David Fincher movie that comes out of this. All movies based on real-life events shall be directed by David Fincher, according to this blog.

A macaque monkey that may carry a form of the herpes virus is the final animal on the loose in Ohio after dozens in a private collection were let out of their cages Tuesday before their owner killed himself, authorities said.
Today in things that we should probably worry about. The Zanesville wildlife preserve dude is a whole bucket of weirdo.

It’s always been a fear of mine knowing (the preserve’s owner) had all those animals. I have kids.
Neighbor Danielle White • Discussing the bizarre incident involving an Ohio wildlife preserve, where numerous animals — lions, tigers and bears, plus more — had to be taken down in shoot-to-kill fashion after the owner opened up the cages housing numerous animals … then reportedly committed suicide, allowing the animals to run free throughout the area and creating a number of challenges for authorities. The preserve had been the subject of many complaints over the past decade. White, for example, once saw a lion escape. Most of the animals have been put down, but nearby schools had to close as a result of the bizarre incident. source (viafollow)
