sassyskeptic says: Do you have a favorite 'weird news' item from this week?

Peep the final bullet point from this week’s @Newsweek. With timing like this its a shame its stopping publication. lol #Petraeus

What you don’t even realize is that this is only half of it. That piece on those 12 rules was WRITTEN BY PETRAEUS’S MISTRESS. For real. Look.

Dear Newsweek: When you realized the weirdness of the timing of the Petraeus story mentioned above in relation to the current scandal, what was the reaction in the newsroom? Did people just look bewildered by the fact that you inadvertently became a part of the story, however small?

More on seeing Matthew Lesko at Caribou

minusmanhattan said: I know him - went to college with one of his sons. He wears the suits at all times - and his cars all have them too. Santa suit? Yep, it’s got questions marks all over it too.

» SFB says: Fascinating. So what you’re saying is that he’s the infomercial version of Steve Jobs (mixed with the Riddler), eh?

Seattle “superhero” Phoenix Jones arrested for allegedly pepper-spraying people: Today in bizarre stories which somehow rival this one for utter weirdness and also share the same basic plot with two different movies released in the past 18 months.

Colombian school suffers from bizarre mass-hypnotism: In regards to that Colombian mass hypnotism post we threw up earlier, we found this video, acquired by Colombian newspaper El Espectador. (Note: It’s in Spanish.) Make of this weirdness what you will. The magician in question has been arrested, BTW, along with his two assistants. Surprising the story hasn’t crossed over internationally yet, considering how freaking strange it is.

politico:

In the seconds after the shaking stopped, several people pointed toward a twin-engine jet making its approach to Ronald Reagan National Airport over Arlington. One man shouted “not f——— 9/11 again!” Two women in skirts standing atop a Freedom Park bridge dropped to their hands and knees. (via Earthquake hits D.C. area)

We didn’t have this reaction at all. It was kinda weird but didn’t really affect our lunch all that much.

He’s still determining his political future, but he will not run for re-election. He’s fully focused on fulfilling his elected duties and serving his constituents to the best of his duties here in the House.
David Wu’s spokesman, Erik Dorey • Revealing that the troubled congressman, a Democrat, won’t run for re-election. Fortunately for him, Wu is low-profile enough that he hasn’t faced intense scrutiny to the level of Anthony Weiner, which means that he might be able to weather the storm and keep his job for another year … if he’s careful. However, Wu faces much harsher charges than Weiner ever did — allegations of an unwanted sexual encounter with an 18-year-old woman. On top of that, he has some embarrassing photos that work well next to a story like this one. So who wants to take bets on how long it takes for him to resign? source (viafollow)

It takes a brave human being to name a song “Gravy Rainbow,” but that’s what Disasteradio just did. It’s like Dan Deacon with fewer musical chops and more weirdness. That’s a compliment. The album, “Charisma,” is available for free, too. (thanks TNW) source
