Their minds are perverted, they’re frankly very sick people psychologically, mentally and emotionally and they see everything through the lens of homosexuality. When they talk about love they’re not talking about love, they’re talking about homosexual sex.
E.W. Jackson, the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor in Virginia, on homosexuality. Jackson also believes that Planned Parenthood is worse than the KKK, and has called Obama “an evil presence” who might be a secret Muslim-Atheist (no, it’s not possible to be both; “I don’t know how this combination works,” he admits). Some on the right think he’ll doom the GOP’s odds in the state; some on the left feel the opposite. source

Politico:

The investigation is the latest example of the complicated relationship between McDonnell and Cuccinelli. McDonnell is supporting Cuccinelli’s [Gubernatorial] bid and raising money for him, but the two butted heads earlier this year when Cuccinelli opposed McDonnell’s bipartisan transportation bill. And undoubtedly voters’ approval of McDonnell and his administration will play a role in Cuccinelli’s fate this November.

Meanwhile, the Virginia GOP just nominated for Lieutenant Governor a guy who’s conservative to the point of parody—he’s defended the Constitution’s 3/5th clause, for example—and some on the right are fretting that he might cost Cuccinelli the election (Photo credit: AP). source

The guy’s a terrible actor. I knew it was just a matter of holding still as long as possible until the real police got there.
New River Community College student Clara Keller • Discussing the shooting on Friday, in which the suspect, Neil MacInnis, is reported to have pretended to be a police officer in an effort to convince people to come out. As Keller notes, the strategy didn’t really work. MacInnis is charged in the shooting, which injured two women. He allegedly announced the shooting on 4chan minutes before it actually happened. source

You Saw This Coming of the Day: An Anonymous Post on 4chan’s /b/ Possibly Linked to Virginia Mall Shooting
The main suspect behind today’s shooting at a shopping mall in Virginia appears to have revealed his plan in advance on 4chan’s /b/ board only minutes before carrying it out, according to Gawker. While the authenticity of the post has yet to be verified by the officials, details are still emerging about the suspect (who is now in police custody) and we’ll bring more updates as the story develops.

The link to the portfolio site on the document matches the name of the just-announced suspect, Neil Macinnis. His name was announced less than five minutes ago, by a local news outlet.
EDIT: Here’s a full story.

  • action A three-judge panel on the 4th Circuit US Court of Appeals overturned Virginia’s anti-sodomy law last month, concluding that it’s unconstitutional for the state to forbid adults from having consensual oral or anal sex in the privacy of their homes.
  • reaction VA Attorney General and Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli is challenging that ruling, with his office petitioning the court to review the case again, this time with the full 15-judge panel weighing in. source

More details: The original case that the court was addressing involved consensual oral sex between a man and a 17-year-old woman. Cuccinelli is arguing that the court was right to strike down the anti-sodomy statute, but wrong to overturn the man’s conviction, as his particular case involved sexual relations with a minor. You’ll be hearing a lot about Cuccinelli in coming months, as Virginia will be only one of two states to hold gubernatorial elections this year (the other being New Jersey).

  • 95 separate vehicles were involved in 17 different crashes near the Virginia/North Carolina line on I-77 on Sunday. Heavy fog was to blame, along with the mountainous locale. “This mountain is notorious for fog banks. They have advance signs warning people. But the problem is, people are seeing well and suddenly they’re in a fog bank,” noted one official, Glen Sage of the American Red Cross. Three people were killed in the incident. source

…hooray for America?

More impressive than the victory? The man’s chest-writing skills.

Meet Charles, the Norfolk, Va.-based “Lab-a-lion” whose owner-cut mane (in honor of Old Dominion University’s mascot) was so convincing, that people called 911, freaked out that it might be an actual lion. (In case you need some spelling out, it’s a dog.) Try topping that, other weird news stories today.

And for a conservative, voting for Virgil Goode is a vote for Barack Obama. Virgil’s not going to win.

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell yesterday during a radio interview, when asked if Constitution Party candidate Virgil Goode would sway the national election.

Goode recently received permission from Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli to stay on the Virginia ballot. The state’s Republican party sought to remove Goode from the ballot, citing irregular petitions to get on the ballot for the national election. (via The Roanoke Times)

Weekend music recommendation: Just wanted to give a little appreciation to Norfolk, Virginia’s very own Skye Zentz, an acoustic singer-songwriter perfect for summery vibes and cheery times. She just released her second album, “Bird Heart,” a week or two ago, and she’s pretty awesome in person. Highly recommend you give her a listen. (Disclosure: When I spent my days as an acoustic troubadour in the style of watered-over Elliott “Leonard ‘Nick Drake’ Cohen” Smith, I once played a show with her. — Ed)
