Holy. Fucking. Shit.
Frere-Jones is suing Hoefler for half of the world’s preeminent digital type foundry (via Quartz)

Whoa.
When joining forces in anything creative, GET IT IN WRITING KIDDOS.

For those who know nothing about typography: This is the company behind a number of well-known typefaces, with Gotham, the font closely associated with the Obama presidential campaigns, being the most famous.
This lawsuit is also a good reminder that fonts are big business: Buying a single license for the Gotham font library, for example, will put you back roughly $300. Imagine how many of those licenses the Obama campaign bought. Now imagine how much money Frere-Jones lost when Hoefler didn’t give him equal ownership rights.

Our favorite font gets an upgrade: Chartwell, the typeface that allows you to create graphics on the fly, now has a ton of new, totally awesome styles, allowing you to design charts like these by only typing in a series of numbers. Mind blown? It should be.

Random complaint that only a typography nerd would care about: Yo, Tumblr, think you can make it possible to do inch marks as opposed to quotes? We typed them in there to be inch marks, even putting in the HTML code and everything, but you made them quotes. Thanks for wasting our time. Sigh.

JFK grave’s worn-down typography getting a little TLC: Today, typographic legibility is in the news. Why? Because the letters on JFK’s gravesite are getting hard to read. Time to restore them to their former glory. source
