For those who know nothing about typography: This is the company behind a number of well-known typefaces, with Gotham, the font closely associated with the Obama presidential campaigns, being the most famous.
This lawsuit is also a good reminder that fonts are big business: Buying a single license for the Gotham font library, for example, will put you back roughly $300. Imagine how many of those licenses the Obama campaign bought. Now imagine how much money Frere-Jones lost when Hoefler didn’t give him equal ownership rights.
