As we just mentioned, Obama dropped that phrasing during today’s ceremony for Medal of Freedom recipients, one being late Polish resistance hero Jan Karski. A slew of condemnation and calls for apology resulted from various Polish political figures, incensed that the words seemed to imply a Polish effort to establish death camps, as opposed to making it clear that the camps were established under Nazi occupation.
