Now we know why he’s crowdfunding that Shaq-Fu sequel…

  • $1K per week is what Shaquille O’Neal spends on apps for his various smart devices during an average seven-day period, according to a new Wall Street Journal interview with the former NBA All-Star. Suddenly, we don’t feel so bad about spending a couple bucks on Threes last week. source

Michael Sam’s decision to open up about his sexuality has generated quite a bit of discussion among sports fans and broadcasters alike this week, but few have offered thoughts as on-the-nose as this two-minute segment from Dale Hansen, sports analyst for Dallas’ WFAA 8 News. If a league worth billions welcomes the founders of dog-fighting rings, drunk drivers, accused rapists, and a whole lot more, it seems pretty disgusting to suggest that a gay man would be the only one who isn’t welcome in an NFL locker room. source

There’s always an impression about the way girls look on the sidelines. I’m not going to lie, I really want to look nice. But I feel like it’s such a double standard because the men I work with are gorgeous. Most of them are former athletes and they take really good care of themselves. And I gotta tell ya, their suits aren’t cheap. So, when people are like, ‘Oh, she paid this much for her jacket’, or ‘She’s wearing these kind of boots on the field’, it’s like, ‘Yeah, but go ask Michael Strahan how much his suits cost.’
Erin Andrews • Commenting on some of the critiques she regularly faces during her career as a sportscaster, during a recent discussion of double standards in football broadcasting with Elle magazine, and the fact that many of those issues never seem to matter to her detractors when it comes time to examine the performances of her male counterparts. Former NBA star Dennis Rodman has apologized for comments he made on Wednesday which many took as a sign that Rodman believed imprisoned American Kenneth Bae was actually guilty of the crimes the North Korean government has charged him with, Rodman apologized to Bae and his family, other players who also made the trip to North Korea, the CNN reporter he berated and anyone else offended by his comments, attributing them to a combination of too much alcohol and poor spirits. (Photo courtesy of AP/Kim Kwang Kyon)

Texas town to vote on most expensive high school stadium in the country

  • $69.5M could be spent on a new high school football stadium in the city of Katy, Texas, if a new ballot measure is approved by voters on Tuesday, though it doesn’t actually say that anywhere on the ballot. Registered voters in the town of approx. 15,000 will be asked to vote yes or no on an all-or-nothing bill — that also includes $4.5 million for a new science, technology, engineering and mathematics center — that would see nearly 70 million dollars set aside for the “construction, acquisition and equipment of school buildings in the district.” The new facility would seat roughly 14,000 and be built next to the town’s existing high school stadium, which only seats ten thousand. source
