Paul campaign calls out media on Romney’s Virgin Islands “win”

The delegate dance: As you may (or may not) have heard, Ron Paul finished with 29% of the vote in the Virgin Islands caucus last weekend, beating out runner-up Mitt Romney, who had 26%. Romney was awarded four delegates, however, and Paul merely one. The reason? In short, the delegates weren’t actually tethered to the final vote – there’s often a process of jockeying for support that goes on even after the results roll in, as delegates can have autonomy as to what they choose to do. If this seems odd, or maybe downright undemocratic to you, it’s worth noting that Romney isn’t the only one trying to milk more support than the will of the people bestows him; Paul campaign adviser Doug Wead openly admits this is the plan to keep his man a relevant player come convention time.
