While it seems that Mitt would say and do anything to close a deal – or an election. George Romney’s strength as a politician and public officeholder was his ability and determination to develop and hold consistent policy positions over his life.Former George Romney aide Walter De Vries • Criticizing George’s son, Mitt, for what he sees as the biggest difference between father and son — George stuck to his guns, but Mitt switches views based on what’s politically convenient. The New York Times has a letter to this effect from De Vries. Want to know more about the differences between Mitt and George? I believe that my duty is to follow my conscience and vote what I think is in the best interest of the country, and the political risks will have to abide.Sen. Arlen Specter • On his decision to switch parties and support the Affordable Care Act, a switch he made in 2009 amidst controversy. The change cost him another term in the Senate — he lost a challenge to Rep. Joe Sestak in 2010, and Sestak lost to Pat Toomey in the general election. corysblog says: I really don’t see anything non-factual about this video. Everyone paying attention knows that the country’s vote is split pretty much half and half, but was Romney wrong for stating that fact? Scores of poor whites who benefit from the Earned Income Tax Credit vote for Republicans.” — Ernie @ SFB

I may have irritated a lot of the lefties, but I was aiming for people in the middle.Clint Eastwood • Reacting to the negative reaction (particularly from the left) his RNC speech drew. Eastwood spoke to his tiny local paper, the Carmel Pine Cone, in the first interview he gave since the speech. (Eastwood was once mayor of Carmel, Calif.) Regarding how Eastwood got away with such a strange speech, he made this claim: “They vett most of the people, but I told them, ‘You can’t do that with me, because I don’t know what I’m going to say.’” Turns out it involved talking to a chair.
