Romney/Rock 2012? Just kidding, that’s not happening. You know what is happening, though? A Kid Rock performance at the Republican National Convention this summer. Rock has always been an outspoken conservative, so this isn’t really too surprising, but still, there’s now a chance that we’ll get to see Mitt Romney singing and clapping along to “Bawitdaba,” and that possibility alone will absolutely make the RNC worth watching. The catch is this: Only 11% of those polled said they’re excited by a Romney candidacy. Enthusiasm is a huge component in turning out voters; the difference in propensity to vote between a voter who’s “excited” and one whose merely “satisfied” with their candidate can be the difference between winning and losing.

This quote is actually from before the primary, and Lane’s prediction was born out in Gingrich’s speech tonight, wherein the former Speaker pledged to plow forward despite having lost Florida tonight. The article’s author, Alexander Burns, adds that “Gingrich has made a career out of upending conventional wisdom and ignoring the establishment view that he should go to the corner and shut up.” A long, protracted primary probably won’t be any help to the eventual nominee, but it’ll sure be fun for political nerds like us. source (via • follow)
Rick Perry, jockeying for the anti-gay vote: This ad, called “Strong,” has the Texas governor promising to end the Obama administration’s “war on religion” and touting his commitment to Christianity. “Something’s wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military,” Perry says, “but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas, or pray in school.” It’s unclear what policies President Obama has put in place to deny kids the right to openly celebrate Christmas.
