Imagine an industry where every single opponent worked in the same street, competing with each other by day—drinking, brawling, fornicating, night clubbing and cocaine-snorting with each other by night. A street full of the most ruthless and amoral people in the world existed, and it was called Fleet Street.Piers Morgan • Discussing his new Starz TV show, Fleet Street, a new dramatic series about his time working the tabloid journalism circuit in the ’70s. It’s a lot like working on ShortFormBlog now.
Let’s not let arguments over the Constitution’s Second Amendment violate the spirit of its First. President Obama believes that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. However, the Constitution not only guarantees an individual right to bear arms, but also enshrines the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press — fundamental principles that are essential to our democracy.White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, responding to the Alex Jones-initiated petition to deport Piers Morgan.
I don’t think any of my colleagues on any cases vote the way they do for political reasons,” he said. “They vote the way they do because they have their own judicial philosophy.Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia • During an interview with Piers Morgan for “Piers Morgan Live” last night, refuting claims that he was feuding with Chief Justice John Roberts. The claims surfaced following the 5-4 upholding of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate. Scalia, who is currently touring to promote his new book, also took time to defend the court’s infamous Citizens United decision. “I think Thomas Jefferson would have said the more speech, the better,” said Scalia, adding, “That’s what the First Amendment is all about. So long as the people know where the speech is coming from.” source (via • follow)
It was clearly something that he was familiar with and I wasn’t. I didn’t know. I didn’t know that this went on.Journalist Jeremy Paxman • Testifying before the Leveson inquiry, about an event he attended during 2002, during which then Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan taught him about phone hacking. Paxman told British officials that Morgan’s openness was “quite shocking”, particularly when it came to gaining and maintaining access to phones. “[Morgan explained] that the way to get access to people’s messages was was go to the factory default setting and press either 0000 or 1234,” testified Paxman, adding, “if you didn’t put on your own code… his words: “You’re a fool.” Unsurprisingly, Piers Morgan was less than pleased with Paxman’s testimony. What disheartens me, to be honest with you, is that when you’re sitting across the table from someone who knows what your perspective is… I’ve been very consistent, I don’t think anything I said surprised anybody as a Bible-believing Christian… to then take some answers, reduce an important and personal and sensitive issue to a four-second soundbite, and toss it into a community to start a political bonfire and really upset people that you’re saying you’re looking to protect, I think it’s disingenuous.Kirk Cameron • Taking a shot at Piers Morgan, who interviewed Cameron for his CNN show a few weeks ago, during an appearance on Fox & Friends. Morgan asked him about his views on homosexuality, as Cameron (no stranger to controversial statements) is known as a very dedicated, and very vocal Christian. After some prodding, he admitted that he viewed homosexuality as “unnatural,” and “destructive” to civilization – words which, unsurprisingly, were outraging to a ton of people. Frankly, the idea that Morgan’s questioning and handling of this issue has been disingenuous is quite the contrary of what we’d say; Morgan asked an honest question, got an honest answer, and now Cameron is learning what everybody else honestly thinks about it. If anything, the entire incident has been dripping with sincerity. source (via • follow)
Earlier in the day, Keith Olbermann learned that Current TV had benched him for tonight’s Iowa Caucus coverage, choosing to go with other personalities as word of a fractured relationship surfaced. It was in this environment that Piers Morgan decided to throw a verbal molotov cocktail:
Which drew an entertaining response from Current TV:
And a harsh one from Keith Olbermann himself:
And it devolved from there. Mediaite has more.
So heartwarming that everyone in U.K.’s missing me so much they want me to come home.CNN host Piers Morgan • Joking earlier this year in regards to allegations he faces over possible involvement in the News of the World phone-hacking scandal. Morgan, a former tabloid newspaper editor who’s built a second life as a TV host, will take part, via video-link, in a judicial inquiry into the alleged practices of “News of the World” and other British tabloids. Morgan’s past could come to haunt him in the future. source (via • follow)
I am going to tell you your kiddie has no talent…this nonsense of Howie and Sharon putting through less than talented people has got to stop. Under my administration, there will be no Frank Sinatra impersonators winning.Howard Stern • On his new job as judge on “America’s got Talent,” replacing Piers Morgan, who’s going to focus on his popular CNN show. Some people are not on board with the new addition to the show, while others are ready for the honesty he’ll bring to the table. Especially Stern. “I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, but feelings are going to be hurt,” Stern said. Will this discourage some of the softer competitors from trying out or force a tougher crowd? Who knows. We’re just excited to see what names Stern plans to call little children. source (via • follow)
