Imagine an industry where every single opponent worked in the same street, competing with each other by day—drinking, brawling, fornicating, night clubbing and cocaine-snorting with each other by night. A street full of the most ruthless and amoral people in the world existed, and it was called Fleet Street.
Piers Morgan • Discussing his new Starz TV show, Fleet Street, a new dramatic series about his time working the tabloid journalism circuit in the ’70s. It’s a lot like working on ShortFormBlog now.

Let’s not let arguments over the Constitution’s Second Amendment violate the spirit of its First. President Obama believes that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. However, the Constitution not only guarantees an individual right to bear arms, but also enshrines the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press — fundamental principles that are essential to our democracy.

Looks like Piers Morgan found found a voice louder than his: Morgan had Alex Jones on his show because Jones was one of the loonies behind that petition to get Piers deported for using his First Amendment rights to criticize the Second Amendment. (The White House responded last night, by the way.) Say what you will about Alex Jones, but I would watch this every single night, CNN, just because it’s so craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy. How crazy? Well, at the airport, he wouldn’t take his shoes off.

On Twitter today, Chris Christie reached out to Twitter super-user Justin Bieber for help promoting the New Jersey Sandy relief fund. He’s also sent similar messages to Bruce Springsteen, Piers Morgan, Danny DeVito, the Jonas Brothers and “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro in the past two hours. For what it’s worth, Bieber’s working on it. Are you? (ht Matthew Keys)

Rep. Todd Akin asks for “Forgiveness,” via campaign ad. Does it work?

Perhaps he doesn’t plan to drop out? The Missouri Senate candidate, who was rumored to be dropping out as of yesterday afternoon, appears to be at least trying to salvage his campaign right now, releasing this ad. Akin didn’t have the best day on Monday, facing sharp rebukes from his own party and skipping out on “Piers Morgan Tonight” at the very last second. Akin drew stern criticism over the weekend after he claimed that women couldn’t get pregnant from “legitimate rape” — a claim that suddenly gives Claire McCaskill a chance to win re-election.

I don’t think any of my colleagues on any cases vote the way they do for political reasons,” he said. “They vote the way they do because they have their own judicial philosophy.
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia • During an interview with Piers Morgan for “Piers Morgan Live” last night, refuting claims that he was feuding with Chief Justice John Roberts. The claims surfaced following the 5-4 upholding of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate. Scalia, who is currently touring to promote his new book, also took time to defend the court’s infamous Citizens United decision. “I think Thomas Jefferson would have said the more speech, the better,” said Scalia, adding, “That’s what the First Amendment is all about. So long as the people know where the speech is coming from.”   source (viafollow)

It was clearly something that he was familiar with and I wasn’t. I didn’t know. I didn’t know that this went on.
Journalist Jeremy Paxman • Testifying before the Leveson inquiry, about an event he attended during 2002, during which then Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan taught him about phone hacking. Paxman told British officials that Morgan’s openness was “quite shocking”, particularly when it came to gaining and maintaining access to phones. “[Morgan explained] that the way to get access to people’s messages was was go to the factory default setting and press either 0000 or 1234,” testified Paxman, adding, “if you didn’t put on your own code… his words: “You’re a fool.” Unsurprisingly, Piers Morgan was less than pleased with Paxman’s testimony.
