Peep the final bullet point from this week’s @Newsweek. With timing like this its a shame its stopping publication. lol #Petraeus

What you don’t even realize is that this is only half of it. That piece on those 12 rules was WRITTEN BY PETRAEUS’S MISTRESS. For real. Look.

Dear Newsweek: When you realized the weirdness of the timing of the Petraeus story mentioned above in relation to the current scandal, what was the reaction in the newsroom? Did people just look bewildered by the fact that you inadvertently became a part of the story, however small?

Graphic: Petraeus, Kelley, Broadwell, Allen and the FBI guy with no shirt

Confused about the state of the Petraeus scandal? At this rate, we sympathize — even keeping a close eye on it is hard, with the story mutating over a few days into one that’s reached yet another general, head of U.S. command in Afghanistan John Allen. When this story is all said and done, it’ll make a hell of a read.

  • 10,000 U.S. troops that will be withdrawn from Afghanistan this year
  • 20,000 more troops that will be withdrawn by the end of next summer source

» Quickening the pace: The above numbers represent a much quicker withdrawal than some of President Obama’s military advisers would like, General David Petraeus among them. This decision is being seen as a victory over Petraeus’ vision by Vice President Biden, who’s been a proponent of a more rapid end to American involvement in Afghanistan. The withdrawal would equal the total of Obama’s Afghanistan surge, to which he committed 30,000 troops back in 2009.
