By choosing not to ask for a single dime of deficit reduction from closing tax loopholes for the wealthy and well-connected, this budget identifies deep cuts to investments like education and research – investments critical to creating jobs and growing the middle class. And to save money, this budget would turn Medicare into a voucher program—undercutting the guaranteed benefits that seniors have earned and forcing them to pay thousands more out of their own pockets. We’ve tried this top-down approach before. The President still believes it is the wrong course for America. The White House’s take on Paul Ryan’s latest plan sounds like the same kind of statement they’ve made about everything Paul Ryan’s done since the beginning of time.
Accounting for Ryan’s surplus
House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) says his budget proposal would eliminate the deficit within a decade. How does he close the gap?
Whaddya guys think? We’re gonna be talking about this for a bit even if it doesn’t happen, so we might as well get acquainted. At least Ryan used a pleasant body copy font on his budget plan so it’s easy to read even if it pisses you off.
Look, if we had a [Hillary] Clinton presidency, if we had Erskine Bowles as Chief of Staff of the White House or President of the United States, I think we would have fixed this fiscal mess by now. That’s not the kind of presidency we’re dealing with right now.Rep. Paul Ryan • Offering (on this morning’s Meet the Press) an interesting take on what he thinks of the Obama administration … essentially, Obama is no Hillary Clinton.
There are a lot of Democrats who agree with the need to deal with this. It’s a mathematical thing, it’s not an ideological thing. But he basically said we’re not going to change these programs, we’re not going to reform these programs to prevent this. He basically said we will not fix this debt crisis.Rep. Paul Ryan • Expressing his disappointment with President Obama’s inauguration speech, widely viewed as a staunch defense of liberal policy, during an appearance on The Laura Ingraham Show. Many Republicans have spoken out against the remarks, saying President Obama did not sufficiently reach across the aisle with his speech. source
Ayn Rand is one of those things that a lot of us, when we were 17 or 18 and feeling misunderstood, we’d pick up. Then, as we get older, we realize that a world in which we’re only thinking about ourselves and not thinking about anybody else, in which we’re considering the entire project of developing ourselves as more important than our relationships to other people and making sure that everybody else has opportunity – that that’s a pretty narrow vision.President Obama, in an interview with Rolling Stone, when asked about Paul Ryan’s “obsession” with Rand. source
They showed up there, and they did not have permission…The photo-op they did wasn’t even accurate. [Paul Ryan] did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall.Brian J. Antal, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society. He’s irritated that the Romney campaign had Paul Ryan stop by his soup kitchen, unannounced, and pose for pictures while “washing pots and pans that did not appear to be dirty,” as the Washington Post puts it. Antal is particularly distressed at the prospect of his center appearing to take political position, as he believes that could jeopardize its continued existence: “We are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations,” he explained. “I can’t afford to lose funding from these private individuals.” Here’s the photo in question. source
Now, your turn: What did you think?
At a time when we have a jobs crisis, wouldn’t it be nice to have a job creator in the White House?Paul Ryan, making his final appeal to the American viewing public: “We ask for your vote.”
Our faith informs us in everything we do, that’s matter of course. But it’s not simply because of my Catholic faith, but also because of reason and science. …I believe that life begins at conception.Paul Ryan, explaining his position on abortion. He detailed seeing his unborn child on an ultrasound for the first time, and seeing her heart beat, as a reason he views life as beginning at conception. He said a Romney/Ryan ticket would oppose abortion, though he insists exceptions would be made for cases of rape and incest.
I’ve been throughout that whole country… the fact is we went there for one reason, to get those people who killed Americans. Al-qaeda. We have decimated al-qaeda central, we have killed Osama bin Laden.Joe Biden, finally name dropping Osama bin Laden in the debate’s Afghanistan segment. Biden and Ryan clashed earlier over looming defense cuts forced by last year’s sequestration deal – Biden advocated for a “leaner” military with more special forces, while Ryan denounced the deal’s mandatory cuts, despite having voted for them in congress.
Watch out middle class, the tax bill’s coming to you.Paul Ryan • Warning people where Obama’s spending will fall upon. There is a good horror movie in this.
