Center-left politician Michelle Bachelet, who led Chile from 2006 to 2010, will get another round at the helm of the country after she won another election resoundingly on Sunday.

Also in South America, the U.S. is dropping its aid to Ecuador, citing issues with leader Rafael Correa. Side note: Julian Assange is still in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

Good news if you live in Illinois: Barack Obama’s current home state is about to become the 15th state in the U.S. to allow for same-sex marriage, after both chambers of the state’s legislature passed the bill. It was fairly close in the House, but got over the edge, and is now headed to Gov. Pat Quinn to sign.

I am writing you to acknowledge the mistake I made last Friday during the Patch all-hands meeting when I publicly fired Abel Lenz. Hitting a rough Patch: Hot dog shop owner Captain Barnes showed up on a Pittsburgh-area Patch site twice this week. First, he showed up in a cutesy Valentine’s Day story. Then he showed up the next day, suspected of a bank robbery. The second story doesn’t mention the first story, but if it did, that’d be awesome. (ht Romenesko)

Our callout for Citizen Journalism on Tumblr is now on every story on HuffPost. Just tag your reporting “OfftheBus” and we’ll consider it for inclusion on OfftheBus New Hampshire or our national OTB liveblog.

Great idea on the part of HuffPo/Patch.
