Because of course Lance Armstrong was doping.

Before the interview, Armstrong apologized to Livestrong’s staff regarding the doping. There were reportedly a lot of tears.

Oprah interviews the Romneys: Miss Winfrey took a trip to Massachusetts this weekend to talk with the Republican presidential candidate and his wife. The interview will run in her “O” Magazine. She remains a strong Obama supporter — an endorsement she first made in 2008, after years of keeping her political views of her media empire. Why haven’t we seen her campaign as hard as she did four years ago? “I will not be out there because I’m trying to fix a network.”  source

Oprah on running her OWN network — it’s really freaking hard: “Had I known that it was this difficult, I might have done something else,” the former talk-show host said on “CBS This Morning” about her network venture, which has struggled to find an audience thus far. source Follow ShortFormBlog

producermatthew:

This, sadly, actually happened: Oprah Winfrey desperately appeals to her Twitter followers for ratings by asking them to turn to her network OWN, “especially if you have a Neilsen [sic] box.”

Sounds like Oprah may not OWN her own network for much longer.

  • claim Some sources (looking at you, ever-trustworthy Daily Mail) have reported that Oprah landed the ultimate PR stunt for her new network — a confession from OJ Simpson in the 1994 murder of his wife. We posted this earlier, but admit that we took it with a pretty big grain of salt.
  • denial A rep for the talk show icon denied the story not long after, however. Though she hasn’t gotten Simpson to confess, it’s a dream of hers — she said as much at an awards ceremony last week. She’s still waiting, but she knows exactly where to find the ex-football star — he’s sitting in prison. source

It’ll be sort of a little bit of what Oprah did. Obviously, no one can ever fill Oprah’s shoes, but some of the things that she did on her show, some of the things we used to do on the Today show.
Katie Couric • Describing to Jay Leno her plans for her new show, which will hit the airwaves around September of next year. She signed a contract with ABC on this matter yesterday, and her right-hand man for the show is Jeff Zucker, a man who can get thrown out of NBC during a huge merger, but can’t make coffee. Her transition comes at the perfect time — her main competition is pretty much gone, her rep for news reporting faltered with her time on CBS, and with the ABC deal, she gets to keep her toes in the news side if she so desires. source (viafollow)

All we will say about the final episode of Oprah. Which we’re watching because we have to, not because we choose to. EDIT: This is not a criticism of her body of work, but the tone of this specific episode. Please see update.

O no! The Oprah Store is closing. Not The Oprah Store!!
It’s like Oprah, the brand, is dying: Back in 2008, Oprah Winfrey opened up a store dedicated to all things Oprah. It had an online component and even a few airport kiosks around Chicagoland. That’s all going away, along with the show that berthed them, at the end of May. “We’re ceasing retail operations as we shift our focus to our core business of television production,” said spokesman Don Halcombe, who noted that the store was meant as a way for Oprah fans to “take home a piece of that experience.” Buy your Oprah crap soon, guys! source

I’m not a lesbian. I’m not even kind of a lesbian. And the reason why [the rumor] irritates me is because it means that somebody must think I’m lying. That’s number one. Number two … why would you want to hide it? That is not the way I run my life.
Oprah Winfery • Getting teary-eyed at the idea that someone would think she’s a lesbian. Oprah, who said this during a Barbara Walters interview which we’re now going to watch now that she’s said this, got very emotional about the accusations, which have revolved around her friend Gayle King. Here’s the thing, Oprah. Even if you were, it wouldn’t even be that big a deal. Ellen DeGeneres is basically your heir apparent, and she’s been an outed lesbian for like twelve years now. But we understand why the rumors suck. source (viafollow)

Why didn’t he take care of my child? Why did he give that [propofol] to him? It’s very dangerous; why did he do it? … I can’t accuse him of murder. I don’t know if it was accidentally done or it was intentionally done. I don’t want to get into that, but I have my thoughts.
Michael Jackson’s mom, Katherine • Explaining her feelings on Conrad Murray, the guy who administered the drugs that killed her ultra-famous son. Jackson was talking to Oprah today in her first interview since Jackson’s death, and the pop star’s kids were with her, too. She’s raising Paris, Prince Michael and Blanket, and didn’t like the way that her son was hiding them away from public view. Now, the trio is going to normal schools and living a relatively normal life. Hopefully they grow up to be a little less messed up than their father became. source (viafollow)
