The Obama administration’s continuing stance? For higher wage-earners, the cuts must go away. The Obama administration in general is pushing for ways to raise revenue to deal with the debut crisis. Um, this sounds pretty bizarre on its face. But not as awkward as PETA suggesting to stop pardoning altogether. While the turkeys will both survive after Thursday, it’s still kind of messed up to have people vote for it on Facebook. But not nearly as messed up as the fact that Obama doesn’t pardon very many humans.
Dean Chambers, the man behind UnskewedPolls, admitted following a tough election that he’d been wrong on his premise that polls systematically underrated GOP challenger Mitt Romney. A couple weeks of reflection, however, and Chambers is back in action. He claims the president is little more than Barack O’Fraudo, having won four states (Ohio, Virginia, Florida, and Pennsylvania) through malfeasance. As to whether he still finds Nate Silver too skinny and effeminate to be trusted on numerical matters, that’s an open question. source
A historic visit: For the first time ever, a sitting U.S. president has visited Myanmar (or if you roll that way, Burma), a country long cut off from the outside world. The president, accompanied by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, isn’t going there to endorse the government he claims, but the steps it needs to take. The official U.S. Embassy account for the country has more.
“Let’s understand what the precipitating event here that’s causing the current crisis and that was an ever-escalating number of missiles that were landing not just in Israeli territory but in areas that are populated, and there’s no country on Earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders,” Obama said at press conference in Thailand at the start of a three-nation tour in Asia.
“So we are fully supportive of Israel’s right to defend itself from missiles landing on people’s homes and workplaces and potentially killing civilians.”
He added: “Israel has every right to expect that it does not have missiles fired into its territory. If that can be accomplished without a ramping up of military activity in Gaza, that’s preferable. It’s not just preferable for the people of Gaza. It’s also preferable for Israelis, because if Israeli troops are in Gaza, they’re much more at risk of incurring fatalities or being wounded.”
Regarding the peace process, Obama said this: “Those who champion the cause of Palestinians should recognize that if we see a further escalation of the situation in Gaza than the likelihood of us getting back on any kind of peace track that leads to a two-state solution is going to be pushed off way into the future.” Obviously, this is a hornet’s nest, but should Obama have taken this stance? Does this reflect what’s actually happening in the region?

For 16 months, Democrats and Republicans behaved like a husband and wife in an ugly divorce proceeding, not speaking to each other except through invective.
Now they will see if their troubled marriage can be salvaged, for the sake of the children, which in this case is the U.S. economy. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office reiterated last week that jumping off the cliff would boost the jobless rate to 9 percent from the current 7.9 percent.
For Obama, who won four more years in office in Tuesday’s election, this is his moment to bring a “balanced approach” to healing the nation’s fiscal problems.
In the Democrat’s eyes, that means keeping lower tax rates for the poor and middle class, while forcing the rich to pay more income taxes. White House spokesman Jay Carney renewed the president’s vow to veto legislation that simply extends the tax cuts, which originated during the administration of President George W. Bush.
If Republicans were to agree to the higher tax rates on the wealthy, that would open the door to deals on a new round of spending cuts, including sensitive “entitlement” programs, such as the Medicare healthcare program for the elderly, some Democrats say privately.
Get these guys some couples’ therapy. Please.
Obama wins Florida, tops Romney 332 to 206 in electoral votes
Barack Obama has been declared the winner in Florida, topping Mitt Romney in the final electoral vote tally 332 to 206, AP reports.
Florida officials said Obama had 50% of the vote to Romney’s 49.1%, a margin of about 74,000 votes.
