Just remember to extend those tax cuts costs $1tn dollars over 10 years. There is no way we can get back to a balanced plan that put us back on the path to living within our means, protects Medicare, invests in things we need, if you extend those tax cuts.
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner • Discussing the role of  the Bush-era tax cuts in the current fiscal cliff crisis. The Obama administration’s continuing stance? For higher wage-earners, the cuts must go away. The Obama administration in general is pushing for ways to raise revenue to deal with the debut crisis. But don’t expect any assistance from House Speaker John Boehner, who says that if Obama gets the $1.6 trillion in revenue he’s looking to raise, “He’s going to spend it.” What do you guys think is going to happen with the fiscal cliff?

Um, this sounds pretty bizarre on its face. But not as awkward as PETA suggesting to stop pardoning altogether. While the turkeys will both survive after Thursday, it’s still kind of messed up to have people vote for it on Facebook. But not nearly as messed up as the fact that Obama doesn’t pardon very many humans.

Dean Chambers, the man behind UnskewedPolls, admitted following a tough election that he’d been wrong on his premise that polls systematically underrated GOP challenger Mitt Romney. A couple weeks of reflection, however, and Chambers is back in action. He claims the president is little more than Barack O’Fraudo, having won four states (Ohio, Virginia, Florida, and Pennsylvania) through malfeasance. As to whether he still finds Nate Silver too skinny and effeminate to be trusted on numerical matters, that’s an open question. source

A historic visit: For the first time ever, a sitting U.S. president has visited Myanmar (or if you roll that way, Burma), a country long cut off from the outside world. The president, accompanied by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, isn’t going there to endorse the government he claims, but the steps it needs to take. The official U.S. Embassy account for the country has more.

If you voted for Barack Obama your business is not welcome at Southwest Shooting Authority. You have proven that you are not responsible enough to own a firearm.
An ad taken out by the Southwest Shooting Authority in Pinetop, Arizona • Finally drawing, from the pro-gun side, a clear line on when you’re not responsible enough to wield your 2nd Amendment rights — the moment you voted for Barack Obama. The store’s owner, Cope Reynolds, realizes it’s an easy rule to duck (just don’t mention Obama) but he’ll stand his ground if anybody comes clean: “…if they own up to it, we will not serve them. This goes way beyond gun control, which many think is why we did this. I should have as much right to post a sign on my door as those that post ‘No Guns’ on their doors. source

If Senator McCain and Senator Graham and others want to go after somebody, they should go after me. And I’m happy to have that discussion with them. But for them to go after the U.N. Ambassador, who had nothing to do with Benghazi, and was simply making a presentation based on intelligence that she had received, and to besmirch her reputation is outrageous.
President Obama at his first press conference today. This was in response to McCain and Graham pledging to block Susan Rice’s nomination if Obama taps her for Secretary of State. source

  • closed A Bedford, Va. jewelry store owner closed his business on Wednesday, in protest of Obama’s victory. He said he was in mourning. ”I just didn’t feel like coming to work,” R.T. Lyons said. “There are many days I feel like that as a small business owner.”
  • fired In Las Vegas, a man named “David” called up a local radio station and said he had laid off 22 people in an effort to protect his investment. “Well unfortunately, and most of my employees are Hispanic — I’m not gonna go into what kind of company I have, but I have mostly Hispanic employees — well unfortunately we know what happened and I can’t wait around anymore, I have to be proactive,” he said.
  • cutting One Georgia business owner told C-SPAN that he told his employees that he was cutting their hours. “Yesterday I called all my part-time employees in and said because Obama won I was cutting their hours from 30 to 25 a week so i would not fall under the Obamacare mandate,” Stu, who did not give his full name, said.
  • reconsidering After warning his employees before the election that he might lay them off if Obama wins, Westgate Resorts owner David Siegel appears to have changed his mind — at least a little. “We’ll see what happens. Meanwhile I gave everybody in the company a raise this week—the average was 5 percent. I wanted to help them handle the additional burdens the government will put on them,” he told Bloomberg Businessweek
