At its gleaming store, RadanMac offers the latest Apple gear - the new iPad, iPhones, iPods, laptops, all-in-one desktop computers and more.
But this is no ordinary Apple store. It’s in Tehran, where Apple and other U.S. computer products are banned under U.S. sanctions that have been in place for years.
Despite the embargo, RadanMac is one of an estimated 100 stores in the Iranian capital that openly sell Apple products, often at little more than U.S. prices.
“Business has been booming for the last three years,” said Majid Tavassoli, the store’s owner, in a phone interview. He said his company employs more than 20 staffers and has been supplying Apple products to Iranian buyers since 1995.
The company also has a servicing unit and a business sales arm whose clients have included the Central Bank of Iran, state television channels, newspapers and design professionals.
Meanwhile in the U.S., Apple Store managers in Atlanta are going after customers that speak Farsi. (It’s worth noting, by the way, that the machine on the left is not an iPad, but an iMac model that’s about a decade old.)

This Sunday, when the fifth and final season of Breaking Bad premieres, DISH subscribers who currently cannot access AMC will be able to watch a live stream of the episode on the network’s website. Sept. 11 and Katrina top TV’s most memorable moments
LOS ANGELES — Watching news coverage of the Sept. 11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina disaster and the O.J. Simpson murder verdict proved to be the most impactful TV moments of the past 50 years in the United States, according to a study released Wednesday.

Now seems like a good time to remind folks of the great September 11 reader memories thing the L.A. Times Tumblr did last year. Here’s my own; a number of others focused on the initial shock of seeing it on television.
Florida A&M President James Ammons has resigned the same day parents of a drum major who died after being hazed added the university to a wrongful death lawsuit.
Ammons resigned Wednesday in a letter to the university governing board.
Robert Champion died in November after being beaten by fellow band members during a hazing ritual aboard a bus parked outside an Orlando hotel following a football game against the school’s archrival.
Eleven FAMU band members face felony hazing charges, while two others face misdemeanor counts for alleged roles in the hazing. They have pleaded not guilty.
The expected outcome after a horrible series of events took place under the nose of Florida A&M’s administration.
The End of an Era: Although Microsoft abandoned MSNBC’s cable-news network back in 2005, the company has maintained a partnership with NBC in relation to MSNBC.com. Now, The Daily Beast’s Howard Kurtz is reporting that NBC is set to purchase Microsoft’s share of the news site and plans to rebrand it as NBCNews.com. Chief executive Charlie Tillinghast is expected to remain in his position, though he and roughly 300 other employees will likely move off of Microsoft’s Redmond, Washington campus. No word on how this might affect affiliated sites like Newsvine or BreakingNews. source
(Update: TVNewser has taken exception to Kurtz’s claims of having any sort of “exclusive” regarding the future of MSNBC. Kurtz has responded on Twitter, telling followers that “Obviously there’s been reporting that NBC-Microsoft divorce might happen, but the news is it actually *is* happening.”)
Loud booing erupted after the Republican presidential candidate promised to repeal President Obama’s signature healthcare legislation. Romney was forced to pause by the rejection of his statement, and also faced loud booing when he insisted that the President is incapable of solving our economic problems. “If I am president, job one for me will be creating jobs. Following yesterday’s news that Ukrainian student devs QuadSquad were among the finalists at Microsoft’s Imagine Cup, it’s been announced that the team’s EnableTalk sign-language-to-speech device has won the competition! In letters sent to several top-level government agencies, Representative Michele Bachmann claims that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated multiple branches of the United States government. Bachmann goes on to claim that the organization has successfully placed individuals in high-ranking Obama Administration positions, and lists Hillary Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff Huma Abedin as one such example. A team of Ukrainian students, collectivelyknown as QuadSquad, used 15 touch sensors, gyroscopes, flex sensors, accelerometers, and a text-to-speech engine to develop EnableTalk. The gloves utilize solar cells to extend battery life, can connect to a mobile phone via Bluetooth, and charge via USB. But quite possibly the most remarkable information about the new gloves are the cost of development. Devices similar to — but lacking in sensors/features when compared to the Ukrainian team’s — the Imagine Cup entry typically cost $1200 or more, but QuadSquad’s invention only cost about $75 in parts.
