Gabby Giffords’ husband, Mark Kelly, to Jared Loughner. The 24-year-old Loughner has been given 7 life sentences and 140 years in prison for killing 6 and injuring 13 in a shooting rampage last year. Giffords was shot in the head but survived; Loughner pled guilty three months ago to 19 federal charges and has no possibility of parole. source

Man accused of shooting Rep. Giffords to plead guilty

Jared Loughner, the man accused of shooting Democratic congresswoman Gabby Giffords in the head back in 2011, is set to plead guilty after psychiatric experts declared him mentally fit and capable of understanding the charges against him. Still unknown: What the details of the plea deal are, and whether Loughner will cop to all or only some of the charges (six people were killed in the shooting). source

Jared Lee Loughner found incompetent: The gunman in the Gabrielle Giffords shooting is unable to stand trial, a federal judge announced today, in the wake of a courtroom outburst by Loughner. Doctors say that he’s mentally unstable and schizophrenic. He is to be hospitalized for four months, then reevaluated to see if he can stand trial. source
