"The Hobbit": Peter Jackson annoys film buffs with higher frame rate

  • cause Director Peter Jackson’s upcoming take on “The Hobbit,” on top of being created in 3D, uses a technique unusual for mainstream films — it’s shot at 48 frames per second, double what most films use.
  • reaction Many fans who saw an early ten-minute screening of the film at CinemaCon found the frame rate to be a significant change, with some saying that the film felt artificial and fairly jarring to watch.
  • rebuttal Jackson stood his ground: “It’s literally a new experience, but you know, that doesn’t last the entire experience of the film — not by any stretch, [just] 10 minutes or so. …  you settle into it.” Good move? source

"The Hobbit" looks to emerge from development hell

WITH PETER JACKSON!!! For the love of God. About time. The “Hobbit” movies, which have been hotly anticipated eved since the last “Lord of the Rings” movie came out, looks like it’s actually going to happen as part of a brokered deal between MGM and Warner Bros. Why the trouble? Simply, the main studio behind the films, MGM, has been in dire financial straits for months and is currently in a state of ownership flux. The movie already lost a director in the form of Guillermo del Toro, but on the plus side, if the movies start up by the end of the year, “Rings” director Peter Jackson wlll be back behind the helm. Win-win all around, right? source
