“Joe the Plumber” ties gun control to Armenian, Nazi genocides: Samuel Wurzelbacher, who made a name for himself in the 2008 election by confronting then-candidate Barack Obama before that was a hip thing to do, is now a congressional candidate in Ohio, and has a new campaign video which suggests (via a voiceover playing while Wurzelbacher shoots off a gun) that Armenians and Jews were disarmed before being killed in separate genocides. As you might guess, this kind of talk hasn’t exactly gone over with many people, and his campaign had to walk back the arguments a bit. “No one in the video said gun control CAUSED genocide,” the candidate said on Twitter. Whew. Anyway, if you’re curious, the video is over here. Try to keep your palm off your face. (photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

I’m not the kind of plumber who uses duct tape.
Samuel “Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher • Officially announcing his Congressional run by saying he wouldn’t try to solve problems by duct-taping them. For the love of God, we hope he keeps the cheeseball metaphors up. We certainly don’t see enough of those in political campaigns.

Joe the Plumber to run for Congress in 2012
That may be Rep. Wurzelbacher to you: Today’s profile in not realizing when your moment has passed comes courtesy of “Joe the Plumber,” who has filed papers to run for the House of Representatives in Ohio’s 9th congressional district. (Among the other folks running: Joe’s polar opposite, Dennis Kucinich, who will be mired in a primary as a result of redistricting.) Joe’s rise to national prominence came in 2008, after he challenged then-candidate Barack Obama at an Ohio event over his tax plan, then became a McCain talking point in the final presidential debate. There was a brouhaha he might run back in 2010, when he would’ve been part of the conservative tide rushing into Washington, and that climate would’ve buoyed him, but now? We think that was his shot, and he passed on it. source
