Leaders have to be active in stepping in and sending messages about protecting the diversity within their countries. We did see some of that in our own country. We saw Republicans stepping up and standing up against the kind of assaults that really have no place in our politics.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton • Defending Deputy Chief of Staff Huma Abedin, from recent allegations that she has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, while speaking to reporters at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Clinton’s comments followed a speech coinciding with the release of the State Department’s annual report on religious freedom, after a member of the press asked for her thoughts on the allegations leveled by Rep. Michele Bachmann and four other members of Congress.  source (viafollow)

The Muslim Brotherhood can’t even penetrate the Egyptian government.
Ibrahim Ali Iraqi, Muslim Brotherhood leader from Egypt’s Daqheleya province  • Denying allegations, brought forward by Rep. Michele Bachmann and four other members of Congress, that Hillary Clinton’s deputy Chief of Staff Huma Abedin has infiltrated the U.S. government on behalf of the Brotherhood. Bachmann stands by her questioning of Abedin’s connections to the Muslim Brotherhood, even after top members of the Republican Party spoke out against her. The New York Post also reports that Mrs. Abedin has been placed under federal protection following a death threat from a New Jersey resident. source (viafollow)

  • criticism Sen. John McCain said Rep. Michele Bachmann’s allegations that Huma Abedin is aiding the Muslim Brotherhood had “no logic, no merit, and no basis” and need to stop. House Speaker John Boehner also rebutted the claims, saying what he knows of Abedin shows “a sterling character.”
  • pushback Rep. Bachmann stood by her claim regarding the Muslim Brotherhood and Abedin during an interview. She also defended her questioning of Abedin from critics, saying, “all we did is ask, did the federal government look into her family associations before she got a high level security clearance.” source

Bachmann says Muslim Brotherhood embedded in U.S. government
In letters sent to several top-level government agencies, Representative Michele Bachmann claims that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated multiple branches of the United States government. Bachmann goes on to claim that the organization has successfully placed individuals in high-ranking Obama Administration positions, and lists Hillary Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff Huma Abedin as one such example. She also claims that the group has infiltrated the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and “potentially even in the National Intelligence Agency.” (Photos via Gage Skidmore, zennie62) source

Huma Abedin, Anthony Weiner’s wife, is pregnant
Okay, so this is pretty awkward timing, for obvious reasons. Knowing nothing of the private lives of these two (besides those things that both we and Anthony Weiner might rather he’d kept to himself), it’s probably safe to say that a major political and sexual scandal wasn’t their dream backdrop for ushering in this news. We’d be remiss not to say, though, what would be expected in most cases but may get drowned out due to the mess of “Weinergate” — congratulations to Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner on expecting their first child together. source
