A “wardrobe advisory” from CBS • Warning performers and attendees at the 2013 Grammy awards that they don’t want a wardrobe malfunction on Sunday night. The Grammy Awards have had a history of revealing clothing in recent years, and CBS has had a history of protracted legal battles as a result of pop stars’ wardrobe malfunctions. (The 2004 Super Bowl, which featured Janet Jackson’s infamous moment, aired on CBS.)

The world’s top film honors are in jeopardy of losing their status as the second most-watched TV event in the United States behind professional football’s Super Bowl if they can’t lure more than 40 million viewers, which will be difficult given that silent movie ‘The Artist’ is this year’s big picture.
A Reuters article talking about this year’s Oscars, which finds itself in the weird position of likely being the second-most-watched awards show of the year, after the Grammys got a massive ratings boost in the wake of Whitney Houston’s death earlier this month. Whaddya mean there’s no mainstream appeal in silent movies?

This one’s for inothernews: ”Before Alex Steinweiss invented the album cover in 1938, at the age of 23, all albums came in plain brown wrappers,” the synopsis of the graphic designer’s biography says. “That simple idea revolutionized the record business and spawned an entire new field of illustration-album cover art-that is now inseparable.” I did a paper on Alex Steinweiss for one of my classes, and found him to be one of my biggest design inspirations in college. He’s up there with Paul Rand and Saul Bass for me. — Ernie @ SFB

It’s really hard to accept this award, there’s a lot of talent on this stage and there’s a lot of talent that also isn’t here. It’s also hard to accept because when I start doing this I did it for the inherent joy of making music … So I’m a little bit uncomfortable up here, but with that discomfort I do have a sense of gratitude. I want to say thank you to all the nominees and all the non-nominees who aren’t here and will never be here … I also want to say thanks to all the voters, sweet hookup.
Bon Iver wins for Best New Artist at the Grammys, and Justin Vernon thanks all the folks who will never get the opportunity he got tonight. Love it.

We’re glad to have him back. I think people deserve a second chance, you know. If you’ll note, he has not been on the Grammys for the past few years and it may have taken us a while to kind of get over the fact that we were the victim of what happened.
Ken Ehrlich, Grammys Exec Producer, on Chris Brown performing tonight. Read that quote again. He says they needed a while to kind of get over the fact that they were the victim of what happened. HE SAYS THE GRAMMYS WERE THE VICTIM OF CHRIS BROWN’S ABUSE OF RIHANNA. Read more WTF insights here. Quote’s source here. (via celinenyc)

There’s understandably some anger about Chris Brown performing at the Grammys tonight, years after an infamous domestic violence incident. But … this quote. This quote pains us. It’s such a can’t-believe-he-said-that sort of thing, which personifies corporate issues when the real person who was hurt was a human being. You cannot defend this. You just can’t.

Whitney Houston’s final performance, a duet of “Jesus Loves Me” with fellow R&B singer Kelly Price for a pre-Grammy show hosted by Price. In the days before her death, Houston reportedly displayed erratic behavior; this performance drew attention prior to her death due to her weak vocals. (more | EDIT: Clarified post)

A couple updates we’ve seen on Whitney Houston

Two things we’re hearing: One, the death hasn’t been reported to the L.A. coroner’s office, and two, it happened before a Grammys party hosted by Clive Davis, her longtime mentor. She apparently was found as she was supposedly getting ready for the party, which we’re hearing has now been cancelled. And yes, Ray J Norwood, is that Ray J, the one who is Brandy’s brother. EDIT: CNN’s reporting was inaccurate; it was her bodyguard who found her. (follow the tag for more info as we get it)

who-is-bon-iver:

Still wondering who the freak Bon Iver is the next day? If only there were places on the Internet that could tell you all about them if you’d just type their name in the little bar at the top…

In the spirit of last year’s ”Who is Arcade Fire?" Tumblr meme, we present to you "Who is Bon Iver?”

To people who care about the Grammys: The announcement show is currently going on. Here’s the liveblog. Bon Iver has already been nominated for three grammys, including … for some reason … Best New Artist. Kick Skrillex’s butt, Justin Vernon!
