From one rich mogul to another: Former Turner Broadcasting owner Ted Turner, who knows a thing or two about running his mouth, says that Murdoch has made tactical errors in his handling of the phone-hacking scandal, including his claim that he didn’t know anything about the hacking. “Well, he should have known,” Turner said. “He was chairman of the board. He’s responsible. I took responsibility when I ran my company. You never heard me say, ‘Well, I didn’t know.’” The two moguls once famously feuded, after Turner claimed Murdoch’s media outlets (including Fox News, a direct rival to the Turner-founded CNN) were largely behind the Iraq war, because it helped his company. Turner says they eventually buried the hatchet, however, after he bought Rupert a bison burger and praised the Wall Street Journal. Well, this may perhaps change that situation once again. musingsbymattheous-deactivated2 asks: Why are you using The Huffington Post as a source? They're known to make up 'facts' just to get fodder for their so called 'news site'...I'd rather get my new from a piece of used toilet tissue in a Taco Bell bathroom than read this garbage.
» SFB says: We have our disagreements with HuffPo from time to time (we think they over-aggregate a lot of their content at times, and we side with the writers in the case of them not getting paid), but we think you’re giving them short shrift. They do have some pretty great journalists there, such as Craig Kanalley. If you notice, we also run Fox News content as well, if it’s relevant and newsworthy. We try to base what we post on the content itself, not simply the source. So to put it simply, we’re going to keep using them if the content they have is worthwhile. — Ernie @ SFB
Sarah Palin’s speaking now. She’s talking about “crony capitalism” at the moment. And the “permanent political class.”
There is, it appears, an emerging sense of panic developing on the cable news circuit over the state of a deal on the nation’s debt ceiling. On Fox News Saturday afternoon, Patricia Powell, founder and CEO of Powell Financial Group, advised viewers that they would be wise to have $1,000 in cash on hand if Congress were unable to come to a deal.
“Everybody needs a cash reserve and I’m talking … seriously about cash, cash dollars in your wallet — not just maybe money in the bank, but you also want money in the bank and not just in the money market fund,” said Powell. “None of us know, if they … choose to default, whether there is going to be a credit crunch, whether you might have some trouble accessing some of your credit, and you might even have some trouble with your money market funds. So none of us know. Make sure you have cash.”
This is irresponsible. We do not need to tell people to stuff their mattresses. News channels should NOT actively instill hysteria into our population.

» SFB says: Because everyone else is also reporting the story, but Fox reported the possible terror plot first, so we figured we’d give them the credit for the exclusive, rather than being jerks about it. — Ernie @ SFB
Check out that word frequency! In case you wanted to do a real-time check of the biases of CNN vs. Fox News, this spiffy little OSX app called News Mapper does the trick. Our checks so far: CNN’s obsessed with “debt,” while Fox News has the market on “Obama” cornered. Surprisingly, though, “Boehner” is about even. This is awesome. A supergenius must’ve made this.
FoxNews.com alerted the U.S. Secret Service, which is declining public comment. Jeff Misenti, vice president and general manager of Fox News Digital, said FoxNews.com is working with Twitter to address the situation as quickly as possible.
“We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts,” Misenti said.
It took Fox News a solid eight hours to delete those tweets. Though, mind you, it was on the Fourth of July.
Fox News twitter account hacked, reports Obama’s death: Note that these tweets (on the verified @FoxNewsPolitics account, with tens of thousands of followers) are not only still there, but there are news stories about them. Wonder why nobody’s gotten around to deleting them. This is a verified account, so the hack probably fooled some people.
Un-ED-cceptable: MSNBC is giving Ed Schultz a one-week, unpaid timeout for calling Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham a “right-wing slut.” And good for them. Obviously, Laura Ingraham’s sex life is completely irrelevant to her political views, but more importantly, the use of the word “slut” as an insult implies that having many sexual partners is something bad, something to be ashamed of. This is exactly the kind of antiquated, 1950’s-era thinking that progressives have been trying to move past for the last fifty years, and for Schultz to resort to that kind of base rhetoric is not only offensive and inappropriate, it’s counterproductive to the cause he claims to champion. If anything, we say he got off easy. source
The hazards of multiple Twitter accounts. This tweet, posted on the Secret Service’s Twitter account, was deleted seconds later.
Whoops!
It was only nine days ago that this account started up. Guess someone’s getting fired.
Full Unedited Video: O’Reilly’s Interview With Jon Stewart
We just watched this whole clip, and we have to admit that it was much better as one piece not broken up over two nights. Pretty sure certain things didn’t get into the Fox News clips, however.
