Holy crap. An update to our last post on Ben Parr. He got FIRED from Mashable. Wow. That’s gonna be a good bit of drama this week. Hope all sides are holding up well. (thanks Matt for pointing it out)

Here’s a huge non-debate story, guys: AOL is reportedly firing TechCrunch editor Michael Arrington. He’s seemingly not even getting his venture deal anymore. And he’s not getting TechCrunch sold back to him, like he asked for. He’s done. Do you think AOL is making the right move?

  • cause A little while back, Microsoft agreed to buy out Skype — an $8 billion agreement, the largest in the tech titan’s history by far. The deal, a surprising one by any stretch, just passed regulatory scrutiny.
  • effectBefore the company’s merger with Microsoft goes final, the comany is reportedly firing a bunch of top executives — timing it so that the workers don’t get full paydays for the merger. Lamesauce. source

From “Parker Spitzer” to just “Spitzer”: Kathleen Parker’s out, kids
Alright, so who wants to watch “In the Arena”? Mediaite reports that the weirdest relationship on television, CNN’s “Parker Spitzer,” is no longer with a female co-host. The Washington Post columnist will be leaving the show, and the show will be renamed on on Monday. Question of the day: Was Kathleen Parker just an excuse to ease Spitzer into his own show? source

  • cause NPR decided to quickly fire news analyst Juan Williams for saying that Muslims made him feel uncomfortable, which drew a lot of controversy and led Fox News to hire him full-time.

Unceremonious firing of the day: Iran’s foreign minister gets ditched
So let’s say you’re going to get fired today. There are many ways your bosses could do it, from pink slips to boardroom hatchet jobs. But none of them might be as bad as what happened to Manouchehr Mottaki today. See, Mottaki, Iran’s foreign minister, was in FREAKING SENEGAL doing his job when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad decided to drop the axe. And while Ahmadinejad has wanted to do this for a while, he hasn’t been able to thanks to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader. Yo, Mahmoud: At least bring him home first before you do the deed. You ain’t no George Clooney, and this ain’t no “Up In The Air.” source

  • creepy Michigan assistant attorney general Andrew Shirvell famously got infatuated with a gay University of Michigan student and wrote a hate blog about him. He then showed up on Anderson Cooper’s show, and some magic happened.
  • idiotic An investigation showed a few things: Shirvell was doing much of his blogging and harassment while on the job, he sat outside the guy’s home at 1:30 in the morning, and he stalked the guy’s friends around Ann Arbor. So, yeah.
  • fired In reaction to all this information (and let’s not forget the fact that he lied to investigators), Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox fired Shirvell today. Shirvell’s lawyer hilariously blamed “the liberal media” for his client’s firing. source
