He knows he made mistakes. But John thinks that the treatment of him is so unflinchingly horrible and that what he did is not so different from what others did — JFK, Clinton, the whole rogues’ gallery. We’ve had this conversation about his situation, and I remember he did compare it to Clinton. He said, ‘I did a horrendous thing, but I don’t know why I’m getting such an unforgiving treatment when you think of what other people have done.’
New Jersey lawyer (and close friend of John Edwards) Glenn Bergenfield • Discussing the former senator’s treatment by the press, which Edwards feels is unfair, according to Bergenfield. Edwards, who fathered a love child out of wedlock while his wife was suffering from cancer, then denied the child was his for a couple of years, is accused of violating campaign contribution laws tied to his 2008 run for president and his affair with Rielle Hunter. His trial begins Thursday.
She would do anything in the world to protect all of us, no matter what the personal cost was to her.
Catharine Edwards • Speaking during a eulogy for her mother, Elizabeth. As you might guess, today was a particularly somber day for the Edwards family, but it was one that the family was well-prepared for. Elizabeth wrote a years-in-the-works letter to her kids which included this message: “You are complete joy to me. I hope you will always know that. Wherever I am, wherever you are, I have my arms wrapped around you.” If only more parents cared this much about their families. In related news, John Edwards was there, too. source(via • follow)
It was that attitude we’re going to always look for the silver lining. It is who we are as people and we’ll continue to do it.
Elizabeth Edwards • Speaking in 2007 about her breast cancer, which eventually led to her death this morning. Maybe some of this goes into ploy territory, but the fact of the matter is, Edwards worked 16-hour days while taking chemotherapy pills during her now-estranged husband’s campaign – after which, things got even worse in her personal life. A woman who has had this much bad stuff happen to her, while still looking for that silver lining, isn’t a victim. She’s a hero. Remember that, guys. source(via • follow)
I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful.
Elizabeth Edwards • In a Facebook post where she talks about the spread of her cancer. She reportedly only has weeks to live. So, to remind you guys, this lady spent like a decade propping up John Edwards’ political career only to get dumped when she had cancer so the former vice presidential candidate to shack up with the mother of his out-of-wedlock baby? And now she’s going to die soon? How unkind is this world? The fact that she has a single positive bone left in her body, let alone the sincere heart shown here, is amazing. And John Edwards is a crappy human being who doesn’t deserve any of the success he’s had. (Sorry, we were angry. And now we’re very sad. We have a lot of respect for Elizabeth Edwards. You should too.) source(via • follow)
