This would have been the second time in six years that the Los Angeles chapter would have been given Sterling its lifetime achievement award.
NAACP no longer giving award to Donald Sterling, Los Angeles Clippers owner - ESPN Los Angeles
Aside from the obvious dissonance, how can one receive two lifetime achievement awards from the same organization? I’m also interested in what Sterling has done to earn such recognition. Seems like his contributions would have to be quite significant to earn this honor not once, but TWICE.
Short version: He’s rich enough that he can donate lots of money to organizations like the NAACP—the kind of thing that looks really good in a biography. Check out his official NBA bio, which plays up his 2009 NAACP award (along with another 2008 one), along with his charitable donations.
