  • 10,000 unmanned drones over U.S. skies by the year 2020, estimates the FAA. Under a congressional deadline to open up licensing for drone use in the U.S. by 2015, the FAA has already issued over 1,400 permits since 2007, with drone operators working in law enforcement, state transportation, search-and-rescue teams, as well as at least seven different federal agencies. source
