We just mentioned a few hours ago that security was being put in place for Denver’s first ever legal 4/20 gathering, and now this news comes across the wire. Simply awful.
Glad nobody was hurt. Police haven’t identified a suspect, but do have a “possible vehicle of interest.” source

The Denver Post’s coverage of this story has been second-to-none. A huge credit to them as their community copes.

“I didn’t see anything, but just the gasps and the sparks were enough.” — D.J. Tatum, an eyewitness in the movie Theater 8 who spoke with a 9News reporter. The shooting took place in Theater 9, but was so aggressive that some of the gunfire flowed into the nearby theater. The person next to him was shot in the jaw.
Here’s a clip of the aftermath of the attack on the movie theater near Denver — a lot of commotion, doesn’t appear to be a lot of violence exposed, but it’s nonetheless harrowing. Such a scary incident, we could not even imagine this happening.
Devin Whitney, who suffers from a rare disease known as Oto-Palatal-Digital Syndrome, is hoping to land the prom date of his dreams. Originally planning to skip the event altogether, fearing ridicule from his classmates, Devin says his mind was changed when he recently saw Swift in concert. He’s managed to gain the attention of Denver’s local NBC affiliate, his classmates, family, and over 7,000 YouTube viewers. Considering the country star has pulled through for fans in similar situations, this certainly seems like a worthwhile cause. So let’s give him a hand, shall we? source

» Seven square miles and growing: Authorities in Jefferson County have already issued nearly 6,500 pre-evacuation notices to homes north of the present evacuation area. While the precise cause of the fire hasn’t been determined, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley acknowledged that the county had run a controlled burn in the same area last week, which may have flared back to life. Despite an extremely snowy February, March has been unseasonably dry in Colorado, leading to increased risk of fire – a dozen smaller fires have also been reported from north-eastern Colorado, down to the south.
» The GOP did maintain its hard-right stance on a number of other issues, with ninety-six percent of those in attendance voting to repeal “Obamacare”, and another eighty-nine percent supporting restrictive Voter ID laws. Eighty-three percent also voted in favor of making English the country’s official language.

Oh, That’s gotta hurt.
Oh wow. Yeah, the protests got pretty rough today in NYC, but they’re not alone. The folks in Denver weren’t so lucky — they lost their protest spot. And Occupy Seattle was in a similar boat.
Earl Albert Moore arrested: The man, sixty-five years old, is being held as the primary suspect in last week’s frightening attempted pipe-bomb/propane explosion at a Denver area shopping mall. It’s being reported that Moore left federal prison just one week before the alleged plot, and that the FBI now considers any relation between this incident and the 12th anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings “unlikely.” source
