I favor freedom…The idea that we’re going to preemptively have the government start censoring the internet on behalf of giant corporations and economic interests strikes me as exactly the wrong thing to do.

Newt Gingrich on SOPA.

Apple, you have all those employees over there [China], you wanna bring them back, you’ll pay a 35% tax. Under our plan, you bring them back and open a factory in Charleston, you pay nothing.

Rick Santorum, answering a question about how he would bring manufacturing back into the U.S. with power companies like Apple already based in lower-cost places like China.

Mitt Romney has been given a second chance to address his failure to release his tax returns, and he’s done a bit better than last time, though the core of his argument is still an uncomfortable admission. He insisted he’d release them in April, and explained when pressed that he was reluctant to release the information for fear the Democrats would try to produce campaign issues around it. Which isn’t exactly what one would consider a slick political evasion; he all but admitted this is a purely political calculation, purely to protect his own interests.

All I can say is, it was very painful writing the check last April.

zainyk:

POTUS is listening to the live stream of this debate.

Given how viciously these Republicans are attacking each other, it wouldn’t surprise us.

Rick Santorum just launched a thorough denunciation of Newt Gingrich’s qualities as a leader, questioning the credit he takes for the 1994 Republican revolution, and decrying his leadership as Speaker of the House: “I served with Newt, I knew the problems that were happening in the House of Representatives. Four years into his term as Speaker he was kicked out by the conservatives.” He derided Newt’s tenure as producing a plethora of ideas, but completely lacking in discipline.

"I will give Newt Gingrich his dues on grandiose ideas and grandiose projects. I will not give him his due on executing those projects." Santorum proceeded to absolutely tear into Gingrich’s leadership abilities as House Speaker. That was brutal.

Grandiosity has never been a problem with Newt Gingrich. He handles it very well… I don’t want a nominee where I have to open the paper every day and worry what he’s gonna say next.

Rick Santorum, rebuking a claim by Newt Gingrich that he lacked the knowledge to achieve anything on the scale of a presidency. He concluded, essentially, by ridiculing Gingrich’s suggestion that he should drop out an allow conservatives to consolidate around him. “I came in first in Iowa, and I should drop out?”
