The gains in construction specifically seem hopeful, especially in relation to a strengthening home-buyers’ market, but one solid month does not a panacea make, sadly — the U.S. unemployment rate nonetheless ticked upwards last month, from 7.8 to 7.9. source

  • three construction workers are believed to be trapped under the rubble of a partially-built parking facility that collapsed on the Miami-Dade College campus. No students or faculty are believed to be trapped, though several bystanders were injured by debris. Emergency crews are currently working to free the trapped workers. source

  • £2B will be spent to create an 872-acre amusement park on the Swanscombe Peninsula in Kent, England. The first attraction to be announced was Titanic 4D, which will offer viewers a state-of-the-art look at the famous cruise ship.
  • 27,000 jobs would be created by the proposed development, which will reportedly include Europe’s largest indoor water park, live music venues, movie theaters, and more. The planned park would only be a 17-minute train ride from London, or two hours from tourists arriving from Paris. source

» The construction giant is not contesting allegations that they over-billed the city of New York for work on a variety of projects, both public and private, over the course of a decade or more. Federal prosecutors have confirmed it to be the largest construction fraud settlement in city history. Lend Lease, formerly Bovis Lend Lease prior to a fire during demolition of the Deutsche Bank building, will not be prosecuted as a result of the settlement.

  • coming soon The World Trade Center memorial is on pace to be opened for public attendance by the ten-year anniversary of the attacks (which, as it always bears mentioning, betrays a shamefully slow process).
  • not so fast Due to the expected volume of visitors, size of the memorial, and transit/security concerns, it’s anticipated that visiting the memorial will be crowd-restricted at about 1,500 people. source
