In Chicago, November 22, 1987, two intrusions on television broadcasts were made by a hijacker wearing a Max Headroom mask. The pirate remains one of the few people ever successful in overriding a major broadcast, and was never caught.

Video of this is chilling.

Terror!

This is one of our favorite things ever. Beyond being one of the inspirations for the name of our weekly political clips feature, we find this incident endlessly fascinating. Also worth reading about is “Captain Midnight,” the satellite dish operator who interrupted HBO’s signal to protest the pay network’s increasing rates.
