Julio Acevedo, the man suspected in the hit and run that killed a young family (including a just-born child), turned himself in Wednesday. The 44-year-old ex-con was arrested in a convenience store parking lot in Pennsylvania.
UPDATE: About 12 hours after we posted this, it was reported the young baby died, making this sad tale much sadder. The update below reflects the news as of last night.
Two lives end, one life begins: This story will make you very sad. Early Sunday morning, Nathan Glauber and Raizy Glauber, two expectant parents and newlyweds who lived in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Williamsburg, were rushing to the doctor’s office when the cab they were in was broadsided by a car. The 21-year-old parents both died in the crash; however, the child survived, and the baby boy was born prematurely. The couple, part of the Satmar Hasidic sect of Judaism, were buried later Sunday in the ceremony shown above. “It’s very hard for me,” said Yitzchok Silberstein, Raizy Glauber’s father. “But I have to say that whatever God does is right, even if I do not understand, he has a plan.” A real heartbreak of a tale. Some very creative folks started a wedding registry on Amazon.com for items desperately needed in Brooklyn. One of the people behind this effort is a client of mine so I know for a fact this is 100% legit.
Please help them out…signal boost, buy something, whatever you can do.
This is smart. A very smart hack of Amazon.

O_o That is … wow. Stay safe, everyone.
Mindy Meyer: “I want to ultimately maybe one day run in the presidential elections.”
Web site or not, she doesn’t seem like she’s completely terrible at this. Note the way that she talks to potential constituents.
By my count, there’ve been
1011 arrests so far — and I’ve just been watching the live stream. photo via.
Breaking News is confirming this.
Apparently Levy Aron realized that by kidnapping a young boy from such a tight-knit community as the Hasidic Jews, a lot of people would be looking for eight-year-old Leiby Kletzky. So rather than returning him and trying to do damage control, he reportedly brutally murdered him in a panic. An amazingly sad, incomprehensible story.
I was just doing my job. … It was a crazy day, but I’m thankful that I made it home safe.NYC Detective Marcelo Razzo • Humbly taking credit for his role in stopping serial stabbing suspect Maksim Gelman yesterday morning. Razzo was one of three cops who helped subdue the man suspected in a series of murders, carjackings and assorted other violent acts. Razzo was off-duty – and just happened to be on the train – when he helped stop the suspect, who was dramatically caught on a subway train underneath Times Square. Razzo ran from the third car to the first to help subdue him. Good work. Better response. source (via • follow)
» A man who went berzerk: Lead suspect Gelman, a 23-year-old from the Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn who had a criminal record, reportedly killed his stepfather, his girlfriend and her mother, and proved to be a danger to anyone who got into his way. The situation ended quite dramatically in the subway system, with Gelman hiding in the system, eventually getting on a train near Penn Station, stabbing a man in one of the rail cars, and eventually getting caught by an army of police officers, some with machine guns, under Times Square. What might be a normal episode of “Law & Order” makes for a dramatic, pulse-raising real-life experience.
He was a very nice kid, a gentle kid. I can’t believe this, man. This is my Thanksgiving.Brooklyn resident Serge Marcel • On the grisly murder of his sister, Yannick Brea. The main suspect in the murder, Michael Brea, is getting a lot of attention because he was in a couple of minor acting roles, including an episode of “Ugly Betty.” But the murder itself is why this murder case should be getting lots of attention. Brea reportedly asked his mother if she believed in God, then killed her with a machete. She was found decapitated. He’s being given a psychiatric evaluation and has been charged with second-degree murder. source (via • follow)
