hypervocal:

Is one better? Is one worse? That’s entirely up to you. It all depends on what you think about Democrats versus Republicans, what constitutes fidelity and hypocrisy, how much you value physical contact vis-a-vis cheating, and whether you believe in comeuppance for raging egomaniacs. But one thing is clear: Comparing Mark Sanford to Anthony Weiner is like comparing apples and some fruit that tweets crotch pics when it’s bored. It’s just lazy. READ WHY HERE, FUN COLUMN.

From the column: ”Mark Sanford has much more in common with Bill Clinton, David Vitter, Eliot Spitzer and David Petraeus. Anthony Weiner’s story is more like that of Chris Lee, the shirtless Craigslist congressman. But because of the ‘comeback’ angle, because of the obsessive need for balance, we’re stuck referring to these men and what they did in the same breath.”

Today in comebacks: Anthony Weiner is back on Twitter. It might take him a while to get back to that insidery style a lot of people loved about his old Twitter feed … but on the other hand, that got him in trouble last time. Give him a follow.

I don’t have this burning, overriding desire to go out and run for office. It’s not the single animating force in my life as it was for quite some time. But I do recognize, to some degree, it’s now or maybe never for me, in terms of running for something. I’m trying to gauge not only what’s right and what feels comfortable right this second, but I’m also thinking, How will I feel in a year or two years or five years? Is this the time that I should be doing it? And then there’s the other side of the coin, which is … am I still the same person who I thought would make a good mayor?
So Anthony Weiner is thinking of running for mayor of New York City, complete with New York Times Magazine profile announcing his political ambitions. Can he pull off the big comeback?

Look who’s considering a comeback? Anthony Weiner might be ready for a second chance. He’s toyed with the idea of running for NYC mayor before, but chose not to last time around, due to well-funded Michael Bloomberg pushing for a third term. Weiner, a longtime Congressman, resigned last year amid an infamous sexting scandal.

“Three years ago, I was mostly a behind-the-scenes guy who linked to stuff on a very popular website. I always wondered what it would be like to enter the public realm to fight for what I believe in. I’ve lost friends, perhaps dozens. But I’ve gained hundreds, thousands—who knows?—of allies. At the end of the day, I can look at myself in the mirror, and I sleep very well at night.” Here’s a clip of Andrew Breitbart doing what he did best, holding an impromptu press conference of his own just before Anthony Weiner admitted he sent lewd pictures of himself on Twitter — a story that Breitbart’s site famously broke.

Take a look at former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s new mustache!

He’ll fit in better at Citi Field, at least.

Today in falls from grace. Perhaps he took part in Movember?

Alan Grayson to run for Congress again
Remember Alan Grayson? He’s the ex-Congressman from Florida known for saying things like, “I have trouble listening to what [Dick Cheney] says sometimes because of the blood that drips from his teeth while he’s talking.” As one of the few Democrats willing to throw rhetorical bombs, he attracted a moderate liberal following in 2009, but was defeated in the Great Democratic Purge of 2010. Today, he announced that he’ll be running for Congress again next year. We’re split on this; on the one hand, Grayson would fill the vacuum left by Anthony Weiner and provide a vocal, fiery voice for progressives in Congress where none currently exists. On the other hand, he aired a misleading, morally-reprehensible ad in his 2010 re-election campaign, so we’re not exactly heartbroken by his absence. source

‘Less jobs, more Weiner,’ media pleads: This is the sort of thing that, after what’s already been a very overblown frenzy over the scandal (and today’s resignation) of Anthony Weiner, serves as an instant representation of what’s frustrating us right now. What makes this even worse is that Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly and stridently called for Weiner’s resignation. As the Democratic Leader, that condemnation is part of what Weiner seemed to feel forced his hand. Is there really even anything left to ask her about this? source

I had hoped to be able to continue to work… the distraction that I have created has made that impossible.
Anthony Weiner resigns. @rickklein (via brooklynmutt) • How about the distraction that jerk from Howard Stern made? That was worse than impossible. No respect.

Howard Stern has apparently taken over this press conference.
