He wanted to be president less than anyone I’ve met in my life. He had no desire to … run. If he could have found someone else to take his place … he would have been ecstatic to step aside. He is a very private person who loves his family deeply and wants to be with them, but he has deep faith in God and he loves his country, but he doesn’t love the attention.
Tagg Romney • Discussing his father Mitt, who he had to convince with his mother, Ann, to run for president. Tagg made the comment in a long post-mortem article written by the Boston Globe’s Michael Kranish, which pinpoints what, exactly, happened. The biggest problem, according to the Globe report? The campaign did very little to focus on Romney’s personal and leadership strengths — and Obama’s campaign was much better at reaching individual voters than Romney’s. A great Sunday morning read.
