4people killed in a shooting at a townhome in Aurora, Colorado, including the gunman. The police attempted to negotiate with armed assailant, still barricaded inside the home for hours this morning, until he fired on police, prompting a raid that left him dead at around 9 AM. Three other adults in the home were found dead. This is no doubt a grim and evocative incident for the people of Aurora, the same Colorado town in which a brutal shooting during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises last year, gripping national attention. source

As it turns out, she was not a teacher. Nor does it appear that Nancy Lanza had been a substitute or a teacher’s aide at Sandy Hook Elementary School, as some reported. Other accounts said incorrectly that she had been killed at the school along with her students, rather than at home before her son’s rampage at the school.
The Washington Post’s Paul Farhi • From an article today detailing the mistaken narratives and misinformation that sprung forth in the early hours after the Sandy Hook shooting, and how those mistakes can persist. This is not the first time we’ve seen so much bad information swarm a tragic incident, or even a school shooting — reports of motive in the aftermath of the Columbine shooting have also since proven dubious (perhaps explained best by Columbine author Dave Cullen). source

The NRA had been in virtual silence since the grisly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, but now has released this statement, teasing some level of increased participation on the topic. What will this mean? It’s hard to say. But this at least hints at a step that’s invariably relevant, if not crucial, should any form of gun control conversation occur — the NRA coming to the table in good faith.
