SFB says: Not a bad insight. North Korea never explicitly stated that Austin was a target; this assumption was pieced together by Westerners, who analyzed several blurry photographs released by North Korean state media (photographs that, it should be noted, the DPRK released primarily for domestic propagandistic purposes). That being said, Rick Perry would still like you to keep in mind that Austin is a burgeoning hub for businesses in the US. —Seth @ SFB
I think the individuals in North Korea understand that Austin, Texas, is now a very important city in America, as do corporate CEOs and other people who are moving here in record numbers.Texas Governor Rick Perry, explaining his theory on why Kim Jong-un listed Austin, TX as a possible target for a nuclear strike. source
Gov. Perry believes in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it. But he also shares the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government.Catherine Frazier, press secretary for Texas Governor Rick Perry • Pouring a bit of heavily-couched water on the burgeoning secessionist movement within the state of Texas. In fact, it isn’t even limited to the Lone Star State — since the reelection of President Obama, secession petitions have been filed by (presumably) disgruntled voters in 30 states. The Texas portion of this discontent has furnished a petition with well over 25,000 signatures, the amount at which the Obama administration must review the list and issue a reply. Our guess? No go. Perry coming out against this movement is instructive, perhaps, in how seriously he now takes the rhetoric — back in May of 2009, Perry opted to stoke such sentiments, while speaking at a Tea Party rally in Austin. source
» Reminder: None of these candidates are running for the Republican nomination anymore.
Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry, running mates? That’s a rumor that’s been floating around (based on this report), but both sides deny it, with Gingrich spokesperson R.C. Hammond saying “any sort of talks along those lines would be premature” and Perry spokesperson Catherine Frazier calling it “humbling but premature.” Funny, we’d argue it’s too late to have these kind of discussions. It’s been discovered that an old obscure paragraph dealing with state pension benefits has allowed Texas Gov. Rick Perry to increase his take-home pay by more than $90,000 a year. While slashing programs for the poor, he’s getting retirement benefits while still working.
An interesting history of how Perry got the ability to double-dip.
We’ve heard from some that CPAC’s been a decidedly less-libertarian affair in 2012 than in the past couple of years, when Paul attended. Seems like this result reflects this. Paul won in 2010 and 2011; Mitt won from 2007-2009.
I began this race with a sense of calling, knowing a calling never guarantees a particular outcome.Rick Perry • For example, the line could be busy …
I am suspending my campaign and endorsing Newt Gingrich for President of the United States. I believe Newt is a conservative visionary who can transform our country.

“into a bunch of swingers…yeah, baby,” he added with a Texan drawl.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no viable path forward for me in this campaign.Rick Perry • Announcing the suspension of his campaign. He’s endorsing Gingrich, saying that even though he’s disagreed with him, “There is forgiveness for those who seek God.” What?
This campaign’s never been about the candidates. I ran for president because I love America.Rick Perry • Starting with some Americanisms. “What’s broken in America is not our people; it’s our politics.”
