New York newspapers.

The New York Post totally screwed this one up, by the way. Terrible juxtaposition of headline and big news story that should’ve been their lede. By the way, check all these out in non-collage form.

GREAT. Before I was just freaking out about finding a boyfriend. Now I have to worry about finding a husband.

Joke of the night.

Looks like the vote has two Republican supporters: Mark Grisanti is for the bill too. He’s done the research. “I vote in the affirmative,” he said.

The polar opposite of Rubén Díaz, Sr.: State Sen. Thomas K. Duane comes from a long history of gay rights. He’s also over his time, but being far nicer about it than Diaz. Talking about his partner. Breaking up in tears over the struggle his own family has faced.

Rubén Díaz, Sr. is kind of a jerk: Talking over his two-minute limit. Saying homophobic things. Choosing not to sit down. Someone doesn’t want this bill to pass.

36-26. The same-sex religious exemption is passed. Loud cheering outside the chamber. Rubén Díaz, Sr. sounds totally frustrated about this.

Sen. Saland is the 32nd vote, guys. There was a minor back-and-forth after Saland chose not to yield for discussion by Ruben Diaz, Sr. — a key opponent of gay marriage.

Hop over here to watch the live Senate gay marriage vote. Assuming this particular player usually doesn’t get 25,000 viewers.

This is not about religion, this is about civil rights.
Sharon Baum, a protester for gay marriage in New York • Describing her take on the gay marriage situation. (Another take, from 80-year-old Ginny Winn: “If this passes, we will become Sodom and Gomorrah.”)Tension is growing as the bill to legalize gay marriage hits in a critical stage — one that requires at least some Republican support to make it happen. It’s a key battleground state for the gay rights movement: If gay marriage passes in New York, there’s a good chance it will set a precedent that other states will follow the Empire State’s lead. A large number of people on both sides of this bill have come forward to protest a decision that could go either way at this point. Keep an eye on this today, guys. source (viafollow)
