Last night NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent Richard Engel recounted, to Rachel Maddow, the tale of how he and his crew were kidnapped by government loyalists while en route to a rebel base in northern Syria. It’s a harrowing story, to be sure, but one most definitely worth your time.
We started a Web site, but NBC refused to let us put the address on any of our ads because they didn’t want people to know the Internet existed. They were worried about losing viewers to it.

Lecture Night in America: Following the murder-suicide allegedly carried out by Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Javon Belcher on Saturday, Bob Costas ruffled a few feathers when he decided to offer his own opinion on the need for better gun control during halftime of the Eagles/Cowboys game last night. Think he could/should have chosen a better venue for this?
Throughout a four-month search process for the person to succeed Jim Walton, the departing president, attention has centered on Jeffrey Zucker, the former chief executive of NBCUniversal, who was replaced when Comcast took over the company last year. Mr. Zucker currently produces Katie Couric’s daytime talk show.
Several news executives close to Mr. Zucker said this week that they believed he had been chosen to run CNN and expected the appointment to be announced soon. People close to the Time Warner chief executive, Jeffrey L. Bewkes, also identified Mr. Zucker. A Time Warner spokesman declined to comment.
Did they run out of names in the phone book? Or is this a comedy hiring? The only network that did worse than NBC in the period that Jeff Zucker was in charge was … uh, CNN. So maybe they deserve one another.

Bad News Community Fans: NBC has decided to pull the plug on the October 19 debut of the fourth season of Community (Whitney too) and has not scheduled a new premiere date at this time. “Given the success we’ve had for the past four weeks – including winning the first week of the season in A18-49 – we’ve decided to continue to concentrate our promotional strength on our new NBC shows that are scheduled Monday through Wednesday,” explained NBC in a statement, adding, “Without having to launch these comedies on Friday at this time, we can keep our promotion focused on earlier in the week.” (Photo via Gawker) source

While we dedicated a substantial amount of airtime to anniversary events, we still touched a nerve with many of your viewers … and for that we apologize.NBC News chief Steve Capus • Apologizing for something that made them look particularly off on Tuesday — instead of airing the moment of silence to honor the victims of September 11 (unlike every other network), they aired an interview with Kris Jenner, the mother of the Kardashians, about her breast augmentation — a questionable interview choice which drew attention to the oversight. The network says it had not regularly aired the moment of silence on since 2006, with the exception of the ten-year anniversary.
At 10:30 on Monday night, Ann Romney is scheduled to take the stage at the Republican National Convention, in Act 1 of her husband’s four-day introduction to the nation. But tens of millions of people will not be able to watch.
CBS plans instead to show a rerun of “Hawaii Five-O,” its hit police series. Viewers of NBC will see a new episode of “Grimm,” about a homicide detective with the supernatural ability to sense evil. And ABC plans to show “Castle,” a series about a best-selling mystery novelist who helps solve crimes.
