From that day until now, I’m still in disbelief. I just feel like he’s away. He’s away. I mean, in actuality, I know that he’s not coming back. I’ve had people to die, pass away in my family. But the level that I’ve gone through with this is just, it just surpasses everything that I’ve been through. Not only because it was a sudden death. It was a minor. It was a teenager. It was a, you know, it was my baby.Sybrina Fulton • Discussing what her life has been like since losing her son, Trayvon Martin, to gun violence after a scuffle with Florida resident George Zimmerman turned deadly. With Zimmerman expected to begin trial later this year, Fulton sat down with the Washington Post to give an update on her life and day-to-day mentality after losing her son. Las Vegas police are looking for a black Range Rover after a sudden burst of gunshots and a car fire led to the deaths of three people on the famed Strip, shutting down the gambling boulevard in several directions.
A Range Rover Sport with black rims and tinted windows pulled up to a Maserati at a stoplight at the intersection of Las Vegas and Flamingo Boulevards around 4:20 a.m. Thursday, Sgt. John Sheahan of the Las Vegas Police Department said.
Early reports indicated that guns were fired from both the Range Rover and the victims’ Maserati; however, police say there is no evidence that the second vehicle’s occupants fired a weapon of any kind. In addition to the three casualties, three additional victims were treated and released from a local hospital for minor injuries, and a fourth remains at the medical facility for additional treatment.
Gabby Giffords deserves a vote. The families of Newtown deserve a vote. The families of Aurora deserve a vote. The families of Oak Creek, and Tucson, and Blacksburg, and the countless other communities ripped open by gun violence – they deserve a simple vote.President Obama, urging congress—more specifically, the GOP-controlled House of Representatives, to put his gun control proposals to a vote.
I just want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who had something to do with rounding her or having something to do with who she was.Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton, mother of slain Chicago teenager Hadiya Pendleton • Speaking at her daughter’s funeral on Saturday. Hadiya, who had performed at President Barack Obama’s inauguration just three weeks ago, was killed less than a mile from her home in a neighborhood park. First Lady Michelle Obama attended the teenager’s funeral, and many political figures, including the president and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, have offered support to Hadiya’s family. Her godfather, Damon Stewart, made an effort to emphasize that her life shouldn’t be used as a political tool, but that her loss, like those of many others lost by gun violence, should be personal in nature. “Don’t let this turn into a political thing. Keep it personal,” he said. “A lot of politicians will try to wield it as a sword. They want to use it for votes.”
I know most of you who personally know me are in disbelief to hear from media reports that I am suspected of committing such horrendous murders and have taken drastic and shocking actions in the last couple of days. You are saying to yourself that this is completely out of character of the man you knew who always wore a smile wherever he was seen. I know I will be villified by the LAPD and the media. Unfortunately, this is a necessary evil that I do not enjoy but must partake and complete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name.
Atlanta Police said a 14-year-old student has been shot at Price Middle School, near the Lakewood Heights neighborhood south of downtown Atlanta on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Atlanta Fire Department, there was a 14-year-old shot in the head. Grady Memorial Hospital says they have received one under-aged gunshot victim.
A second person was reported to have received cuts and bruises, but it is not known if that person was shot.
This is a developing story, and we’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available. For the time being, parents are being asked not to come to the school to avoid creating additional confusion.
Update: The alleged gunmen has been apprehended by Atlanta PD, and is believed to be a student; however, a name has not been released at this time.
Ten-year-old Nathaniel Pendleton Jr. recalled the way his big sister Hadiya would often greet him with a few gentle slaps on his cheeks whenever she came home from school.
“She said it was with love,” he said.Nathaniel etched “I miss you” and “I love you” on his arm Wednesday, a day after losing his only sibling when a gunman opened fire on a group of students just blocks from King College Prep on the South Side.
While it’s hard to say any single death is more important than another (particularly in a place where young people are dying so frequently), we suspect that Hadiya Pendleton’s time in Washington D.C. last week will make her death an intense topic of discussion as the gun control debate continues around the nation. Our hearts go out to the Pendletons, and all of Hadiya’s other family and friends, during what we can only imagine to be one of the most difficult times of their lives.
At least three people were shot and wounded when gunfire erupted at a business complex in Phoenix on Wednesday, and authorities were combing the area for the suspected gunman, police said on Wednesday.
Phoenix Police spokesman James Holmes said the people who were shot were taken from the scene to a local hospital, and there was no immediate word on their condition.
While police continue to look for the suspect, law enforcement officials have confirmed that there were no deaths as a result of today’s shooting. The timing of today’s attack will likely be dissected at great length in the days ahead, with the shooting occurring at roughly the same time that former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords testified before the Senate on gun violence.
Update: There are now 5 confirmed injuries from the attack, three of which were life-threatening for the victims, though none of the victims have died at this time.

A nice, clean infographic, if a very grim one.
With the recent tragedy on everyone’s minds, some people are looking for a cause and culprit other than the shooter. Unfortunately some are blaming media, including video games, for violent behavior in individuals. We know this isn’t the case; banning or regulating media content even more won’t solve the issue.Entertainment Consumers Association president Jennifer Mercurio • Speaking on the recent meeting between Vice President Joe Biden and executives of major video game companies, as part of Biden’s task force on curbing gun violence. The video game industry, which drew blame from NRA chief Wayne LaPierre during his controversial post-Sandy Hook press conference, has pushed back rather firmly against the notion that their products bear any responsibility to America’s gun violence epidemic. source
I still have to get ready to see how much of the neighborhood I can burn down, and do what I like doing best, killing people.A message in the suicide note left by William Spengler, the man who attacked a group of firemen in Webster, NY on Monday. Spengler, 67, was known in the area for brutally murdering his grandmother in 1980, and returned to the neighborhood after he was paroled in 1998. He had done little to draw attention to himself since then. Authorities now report that they found human remains in the home set ablaze by Spengler — a home he lived at with his sister — though the identity of any victims has been unconfirmed. Spengler’s ambush attack on the firemen that came to stop the blaze was a rarity, as firefighters and emergency workers rarely deal with gun violence on the job. The firefighters killed include the Webster Police Department’s 43-year-old public information officer, Lt. Michael Chiapperini, and 19-year-old 911 dispatcher Tomasz Kaczowka.
