We’re in deep doo-doo.
Dick Cheney, in a closed-door meeting with congressional Republicans, on the situation in North Korea. Cheney may be right, but his credibility is undermined both by his own record of assessing foreign threats and, perhaps more significantly, the fact that he used the word “doo-doo” to describe the prospect of nuclear war. He gets points, however, for reportedly wearing a cowboy hat to the meeting. source

This Day in History: February 11th, 2006: Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shoots his friend in the face while hunting

Because remember: if we outlaw guns, only vice presidents will accidentally shoot people in the face.

Happy birthday, best story of the 21st century so far.

On McCain’s VP pick in 2008, Dick Cheney’s face says it all

“That one, I don’t think was well handled,” said former vice president Dick Cheney about John McCain’s VP pick four years ago. He doesn’t think Sarah Palin passed the test of being “capable of being president of the United States.” He doesn’t think Palin fit that standard, and he doesn’t want Romney to make the same mistake.  source

Very happy to announce that as of this morning, Heather and I are legally married (at least in DC). 20 years to the day after our first date.
Dick Cheney’s daughter, Mary • Revealing that she got married to her longtime partner, Heather Poe, on Friday. The couple, which has two children, lives in Northern Virginia, but got married in Washington DC, one of the areas where gay marriage is legal. Congrats guys!

So Dick Cheney just had a heart transplant. ”Although the former vice president and his family do not know the identity of the donor, they will be forever grateful for this lifesaving gift,” an aide to the former vice president said. Cheney famously has had a bum ticker for decades. (photo by Gage Skidmore)

[Dick Cheney]’s developed an angst and almost a protective cover, and now he fears being tried as a war criminal.
Colin Powell’s former chief of staff, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson • He also contends that Cheney “was president for all practical purposes for the first term of the Bush administration,” something critics have long-alleged. source (viafollow)

  • question One political question in the wake of the killing of Osama bin Laden is how the President’s political rivals, usually a very vociferous bunch, would react to the news that a person they’d built into such a boogeyman pulled this off.
  • answer All it takes to get bipartisanship is to kill a nationally loathed terrorist, it seems. Rush Limbaugh praised Obama today, as did Dick Cheney and John Boehner — this is a watershed moment for people’s perception of the President. source

Upcoming HBO slogan: It’s not TV. It’s Dick Cheney!
And now, ladies and gentlemen: Dick Cheney will soon be returning to the American limelight in the form of an HBO miniseries. The polarizing (and I think even the most hardened pro-Cheney partisan would admit, oft-glowering) former Veep’s entire career is said to be the focus of the series, from his rise in the Nixon administration, to the House of Representatives, to his roles in both Bush administrations. The series will be based on a Frontline documentary called “The Dark Side,” as well as a book called “Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency” by Barton Gellman. source

Cheney: ‘One-term president’ Obama finding out we were right about terror

While praising President Obama on his handling of the Tucson massacre, former Vice President Dick Cheney remains critical of Obama’s policies, telling NBC’s Jamie Gangel he’ll be a one-term president.

“I think he’s been through the fires of becoming president and having to make decisions and live with the consequences,” Cheney said. “I think he’s learned that what we did was far more appropriate than he ever gave us credit for while he was a candidate… ” [Full story]

Ten years ago today, the chads stopped hanging in Florida
So guys, remember ten years ago, when our country was so divided that we had to debate how stupid Florida’s ballots were? You probably don’t, because ten years of drama has happened since then, but today marks the tenth anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision that gave George W. Bush the electoral college win – and led to his two twisted terms. It’s a reminder that no matter how far we’ve come since then, the partisan bickering never really went away. source
