Like streaming videos online, such as Comedy Central’s “Daily Show”?
Well, the fight between Viacom (which owns Comedy Central) and DirecTV has prompted Viacom to temporarily suspend some of its online videos. So we are all being punished in this dispute. http://bit.ly/NjL8Hb
— Michael J. http://on.fb.me/LbO0Bq

Worth pointing out, though, that one of Viacom’s ways of attacking DirecTV, a Pop Up Video mocking a statement by DirecTV’s CEO, no longer works; it was taken private last night. A deal in the works?
EDIT: As pointed out by a commenter, someone else threw up the video here.

We have been very willing to get a deal done, but Viacom is pushing DirecTV customers to pay more than a 30 percent increase. Viacom sent us a letter last night that outlined our obligations to remove the channels by midnight or face legal action.
DirecTV Executive Vice President of content, strategy and development Derek Chang • Discussing the struggles with Viacom that led the satellite operator to drop networks such as MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon last night. The fights aren’t new but the stakes have been raised of late. Just last month, for example, Dish Network had to drop AMC Networks in a similar dispute. However (despite declining radings), Viacom’s networks are much bigger and the resulting loss of content will be tough for subscribers to stomach. “It has been inconceivable that any distributor could drop Viacom’s networks, mostly because of Nickelodeon,” analyst Todd Juenger wrote in June. “But ratings are down, often significantly, at networks representing 71 percent of Viacom affiliate fees.” Anyone here a DirecTV subscriber? If so, how annoyed are you?

Don’t work too hard on a tweet. When you see people trying to, for example, synthesize two current news stories into one ‘clever’ tweet, it can get pretty clunky and their labor is obvious, rendering their tweet unfunny.
Comedian Rob Delaney • Winner of the first “Funniest Person on Twitter” title from the Comedy Awards. The comedian, whose tweets include misdirections like “Isn’t it fun how many different shapes pasta can be? My wife left me last night,” was awarded this honor on Sunday on Comedy Central. Social media has certainly played an important role in the relationship between comedians and their fans lately; Amy Poehler, however, called Twitter a “mistake waiting to happen.” Is it worth it for comedians to rough the rocky seas of the Internet?  source (viafollow)

Jill Biden and I started this initiative to make sure that this country - which is a grateful nation - to make sure that we do whatever we can to honor the service of our troops, our veterans, and their families.
First Lady Michelle Obama • Promoting Joining Forces, her campaign with Jill Biden, on The Colbert Report. Last night, Stephen Colbert tweeted “Supporting our troops takes more than wearing a ribbon, unless that ribbon says, “I just hired a U.S. Veteran.” @JoiningForces.” His guest on Wednesday night’s show was FLOTUS Michelle Obama; she was there to promote Joining Forces, “the initiative she and Jill Biden co-founded last year to encourage support for military families.” The goal of the initiative is to reduce the unemployment rate of veterans. • what Earlier this week, with little warning, “The Colbert Report” stopped taping shows without offering a full explanation, leading to much speculation online. It was the first time that ever happened in the seven-year history of the show.
  • why It appears the issue is family-related in nature. Reports suggest Stephen Colbert’s 91-year-old mother, Lorna, recently had a life-threatening medical emergency. The show itself wouldn’t confirm this, though. source

Jon Stewart on “Fox News Sunday”: Bro had to take some tough questions from Chris Wallace, who took the opportunity to dump some fairly strange clips on Stewart. Come on, what was up with the Comedy Central clip? Stewart, as always, defended himself reasonably well. We like Chris Wallace generally, but we don’t know if this was one of his better moments.

Let me say that the President could not have been nicer, especially to my mother. I have some lovely pictures of her with him.
Stephen Colbert • Discussing his interactions with George W. Bush at the White House Correspondent’s Association Dinner, where he made a controversial 2006 appearance. Colbert was asked about the situation by a Redditor in a lengthy, out-of-character interview that he largely wrote in all-caps. Other interesting topics covered: A congressman tried to walk off the stage while he was shooting in DC (but they got him to stay), he always tells his interviewees that he’s in character (“I admire Sacha Baron Cohen, but I am not doing Ali G.”) and he claims that the dumber he sounds about a topic, the more he knows about it. Fun read. source (viafollow)

All he has to do is apologize to us, and we’ll hire him back.
Jon Stewart • Mocking Rick Sanchez’s comments on the Jewish media on Comedy Central’s “Night of Too Many Stars” charity event Saturday night. Stewart, who has gotten quite a bit of distance from the former CNN host lately, also made this quip to people thinking about donating: ”If you went on radio and said the Jews control the media…you may want to hold on to your money.” AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh boy. source (via)
