Evidence of the constant shift of political parties right here: 10 famous black republicans.
In this list, HuffPo puts Harriet Tubman and 50 Cent on the same plane — despite the fact that the Republican Party is a significantly different party from what it was 150 (or even 50) years ago. How did this get through the editorial grinder? There is just so much wrong with this list that we don’t even know where to start.
An Icon Passes: A spokesperson has confirmed that actress and comedienne Phyllis Diller has passed away in her Los Angeles home. According to Milton Suchin, her manager for many years, Phyllis “died peacefully in her sleep with a smile on her face.” She is credited as one of the first successful female nightclub comedians, and also found success on a number of television shows during the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. Additionally, Diller was the 1992 recipient of the American Comedy Award for Lifetime Achievement. She is survived by her son and two daughters. (Photo via Ottawa Citizen) source
I’ve said it before and I will say it again: if I were a young actor today I would quit before I started. If I had to grow up in this media culture, I don’t think I could survive it emotionally. I would only hope that someone who loved me, really loved me, would put their arm around me and lead me away to safety.Actress Jodie Foster • Defending fellow-actress Kristen Stewart, and any public figure who found themselves in the spotlight at a young age, while also warning the parents of would-be actors and actresses. Foster, a close friend of Stewart after their work on the 2002 film ‘Panic Room’, wrote a column for The Daily Beast on the possibility of stars leading normal and/or private lives. Considering she’s one of Hollywood’s most experienced actresses — with 46 years under her belt after starting at the young age of 3 — Foster’s work offers a unique perspective from someone on the receiving end of societal scrutiny. source (via • follow)
Last we checked, the movie is a comedy. Maybe more to the point is that it’s laughable to take political guidance or moral instruction from a guy who makes obscene gestures with a monkey on a bus in Bangkok.Phillip Ellender, spokesman for Charles and David Koch • Responding to comments made by actor and comedian Zach Galifianakis, who recently told the New York Daily News that he disagreed with “everything” the brothers do politically. “It’s not freedom what they are doing,” added Galifianakis. In response, Ellender said the comedian’s statements “appear to be based on false attacks made by our political opponents, [and] demonstrate a lack of understanding of our longstanding support of individual freedom, freedom of expression and constitutional rights.” Sounds like a showdown in the making … between two ferns. source (via • follow)
I’m trying to laugh it off, but my summary of the evening is that it’s an interesting theater, boring movie, and a great place to take a nap.Fred Willard to Jimmy Fallon about the now infamous porn theater alleged lewd act. Click here to watch the self-deprecating interview. (via hypervocal)
» Think this has anything to do with rumors that Johansson will be starring in a Black Widow spin-off and/or S.H.I.E.L.D. movie? Or the massive payday that Robert Downey Jr. saw as a result of the first ‘Avengers’ flick? Then again, maybe Disney and Marvel realize that — after you release the third-highest grossing film of all time — you’re going to have to pay your all-star cast a bit more money to get them all back for the sequel.

Check out this awesome mash-up of The Andy Griffith Show theme song and Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’, created several months ago for Paste Magazine by DJ Party Ben. Perhaps one of the oddest ways to remember Griffith, who died early this morning. Here’s a more traditional way.

Insanely sad to hear this; Andy was an icon. He made television worth watching for many.
UPDATE: CBS News is seeking independent confirmation of Griffith’s death, backing off this initial report.
UPDATE 2: The local sheriff’s department has confirmed the report. You’ll be missed, Andy.
The Daily Mail is reporting that actress Katie Holmes’ recent decision to divorce husband Tom Cruise was due largely to his desire to enroll their daughter Suri in the Church of Scientology’s highly-controversial Sea Org. While celebrity gossip isn’t typically our bag, Holmes echoes complaints previously made by director Paul Haggis and other former members of the church. Most notably, mysterious vehicles — clearly too expensive for the paparazzi — have been spotted outside Holmes’ New York apartment consistently in recent days. The actress says their monitoring is meant as an intimidation tactic. If true, Holmes is certainly not the first person to be harassed by the Church, but could the light shed by her high-profile divorce make her one of the last? He’s managed to stay out of trouble for almost two years, but Marcus Jordan finds himself back in headlines after his weekend booking for obstruction, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. Jordan was in Omaha to support a high school friend and his training partner during the 2012 Olympic Swim Trials. While we think the college athlete is certainly under more scrutiny than most, because of his relation to one of basketball’s all-time greats, do you think Marcus’ history of questionable decisions will prove to be an issue if he hopes to join the NBA? 50 Cent might have made $100 million off his Vitamin Water investment a few years back, but we think it’s time he looks into a new line of work. Late last night, while driving on the Long Island Expressway, the rapper’s bulletproof SUV was rear-ended by an out-of-control Mack Truck. While he was taken to the hospital on a stretcher, representatives of 50 have since confirmed that he’s OK. After comparing the damage on each vehicle though, we’re wondering if Fifty shouldn’t be in charge of designing the next presidential limo. (Photos via ThisIs50)

Before the Mickey Mouse Club discovered the now-ubiquitous actor/hunk/superhero, Ryan Gosling was a gawky Canadian kid with a horrible bowl cut who just happened to have some nasty dance moves. Here he is in 1991, melting hearts with this angelic cover of “When a Man Loves a Woman” and breaking it down to C+C Music Factory’s “Everybody Dance Now” with his sister, Mandi.
At one point he pushes his sister out of the way to upstage her. Top that.
