  • 95 separate vehicles were involved in 17 different crashes near the Virginia/North Carolina line on I-77 on Sunday. Heavy fog was to blame, along with the mountainous locale. “This mountain is notorious for fog banks. They have advance signs warning people. But the problem is, people are seeing well and suddenly they’re in a fog bank,” noted one official, Glen Sage of the American Red Cross. Three people were killed in the incident. source

Obama’s Commerce Secretary cited in felony hit-and-runs; had seizure
Five minutes. Two separate crashes. John Bryson, who was appointed as Obama’s Commerce Secretary last year, could have a rough go of it after California police cited him in two separate hit-and-run accidents on Saturday. Bryson, who was found unconscious after the accidents, was treated at a local hospital for injuries, but was already released. He was in town to speak at a college commencement. No word if a medical condition, or drug or alcohol usage, might’ve contributed to the crashes. (EDIT: Bryson had a seizure, the Commerce Department said.) Either way, police are considering charges against him. The White House has yet to comment on the case, but Obama’s top adviser briefly discussed it: “Obviously it’s concerning,” said to David Axelrod to CBS This Morning, but he offered no further comment on the matter. Think twice before you pass that red light: American Traffic Solutions, a company that makes red-light traffic cameras, just threw up this video of car crashes and near-misses its traffic cameras caught in the past year — in New Jersey alone. Some of the crashes are quite troublesome; others are harrowing near-misses. Someone will likely give this clip Benny Hill theme music at some point. Really, honestly, it’s begging for one. source

  • accidental Karl Lambert of Orlando, Florida got into a car crash in 2008. While he managed to survive the accident, his foot was completely severed in the crash.
  • intentional The paramedic didn’t take the foot back to the hospital. Instead, she used it to “train her cadaver dog,” whatever the hell that means. Now she’s being sued. source

  • scary Bill Pace, an 80-year-old man who recently had a minor heart attack, passed out behind the wheel on a Seattle expressway, mainly due to poor blood circulation.
  • heroic Duane Innes, a manager at Boeing,  used his engineering background to intentionally crash into the car, saving Pace’s life by causing his vehicle to stop. source
