  • 3,400 more homes were authorized to be built on Palestinian land in east Jerusalem this morning, following yesterday’s authorization of 1,500 more, leaving just over 1,000 of the planned 6,000 new homes awaiting final authorization. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been largely dismissive of Western criticism of the latest settlement expansion, saying that to a cessation of development in Israel’s capital ”doesn’t make sense.” source

After Bulgaria tour bus bombing, Israel points a finger at Iran
Suicide bombers claimed the lives of at least six Israeli tourists and their Bulgarian tour guide when they detonated explosives aboard a tour bus at the Bulgarian airport on Wednesday. Another 30 or more wounded were transported to local hospitals for a combination of burn and shrapnel-related injuries. President Obama and multiple Bulgarian authorities were quick to condemn the attack, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is ready to lay the blame on Iran. In a statement released to the press, Netanyahu promised that Israel would react to the “global Iranian terror onslaught.” (Photo via NBCNews) source

An Israeli soldier has been suspended after video of his violent reaction to bicycle-riding pro-Palestinian activists surfaced on Youtube over the weekend. Lieutenant Col. Shalom Eisner can be seen hitting a protester in the face, with the butt of his rifle, seemingly without provocation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack, saying, “such behavior is not characteristic of the soldiers and commanders of the IDF (Israel Defence Forces). It has no place in the IDF and the State of Israel.” source

Second favorite tweet of the night, in reference to Mitt Romney repeatedly bringing up Benjamin Netanyahu by calling him “Bibi.” Oh, Bibi.

  • Sarkozy French leader Nicolas Sarkozy, at the G20 economic conference last week, had what he thought was a candid exchange with Barack Obama when he said this about Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu: ”I cannot bear Netanyahu, he’s a liar.” Damn.
  • Obama In an effort to sympathize with his diplomatic friend, Obama reportedly responded like this: “You’re fed up, but I have to deal with him every day.” While press officials heard the conversation, it seems unlikely that there was a recording of the (amusing) exchange. source

“Indefensible”: So said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on one of the key, specific policy calls that President Obama made in his big Mid-East speech, namely that the borders of both an Israel and Palestinian’s border talks should start with on those present in 1967, before the Six Day War that saw Israel take control of the Gaza Strip, Sinai Peninsula, West Bank, and the Golan Heights. This was a surprise from Obama, and one that he had to know would rankle Israeli stalwarts. Netanyahu says that such a move would hurt Israeli security, and force them to abandon settlements within the Palestinian territories. source

Applying for Hillary’s job? Sarah Palin’s heading to the Holy Land
While we’ve had a Sarah Palin moratorium on the site for the past two months, and we’re not looking to end it, we’d like to think Palin making a “diplomatic” run to Israel to speak to Benny Netanyahu is news. So we’re going to post it. Because, hey, this will probably be the only Palin-related topic we post about Sarah until she announces she’s running for president. source

We are anxiously monitoring what is happening in Egypt and [elsewhere] in our region. The peace between Israel and Egypt had endured for over three decades and our goal is to ensure that these relations continue.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu • Speaking to his cabinet about what’s happening with their allies to the south. And of course, Netanyahu has reason to be worried – his country’s relationship with Egypt has a stabilizing effect on the entire region which could go away if things go the wrong way. This is the most we’ve heard from anyone in Israel about the Egypt crisis – Israel officials have otherwise been warned not to speak about the diplomatically-troubling situation. source (viafollow)

Jerusalem is not a settlement. It is the capital of the state of Israel. Israel sees no connection between the diplomatic process and the planning and building policy in Jerusalem.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu • Explaining why Israel will continue to build settlements in disputed areas of Jerusalem and the West Bank despite rebukes from the U.S. for its latest settlement-building schemes. Just hours before, Obama criticized Israel for its actions like so: “This kind of activity is never helpful when it comes to peace negotiations, and I’m concerned that we’re not seeing each side make that extra effort involved to get a breakthrough. Each of these incremental steps end up breaking trust.” source (viafollow)

  • Lebanon is rapidly becoming a new satellite of Iran. It’s a tragedy for Lebanon.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu • Suggesting that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s recent visit to Lebanon had the effect of radicalizing the country. What makes him say something like that? Well, here’s a sample of what Ahmadinejad said: “The whole world knows that the Zionists are going to disappear … The occupying Zionists today have no choice but to accept reality and go back to their countries of origin.” Ohhhh. Yeah. We see how Benny boy could deduct that from the Iranian leader’s visit. source
