Music: Pete Townsend’s child-porn arrest dogging him at Super Bowl. Why?

  • then The Who’s Pete Townsend was put on a sex-offender list for registering for a child porn site in 1999. He claimed it was for book research. Despite the case, Townsend was not found in possession of any images by Scotland Yard and had cooperated with the investigation. He was cleared of any wrongdoing.
  • now Townsend, who’s playing at the Super Bowl tonight, is getting an earful from Child AbuseWatch, which is using the case to draw attention to child abuse issues. Townsend’s take? “It’s an issue that’s very difficult to deal with in sound bites.… I kind of feel like we’re all on the same side.” source

Biz: Who takes the second worst of the bankrupt CIT? Small businesses.

  • In the best of times you would have seen a situation where other lenders would certainly have been willing to consider getting into this business. In the current environment, given the constraints on credit generally, there’s not enough capacity out there.
  • Pryor Cashman bankruptcy group law partner Mark Jacobs • Discussing the shape of the market that CIT specializes in. The company, which is well-known for lending to small businesses, already dried up much of its lending due to the credit crunch and the company’s own financial woes. While the CIT says it will continue operating normally as it works its way through Chapter 11, businesses concerned about dealing with a bankrupt company have few other places to turn. In other words, a company that few people have heard of has huge amounts of power over businesses you go to every day. And that company just went bankrupt. Oh CIT. • source

U.S.: “Craigslist killer” Phil Markoff’s friends give him the benefit of the doubt

  • By merely joining this group, you have all shown the restraint and intelligence necessary to not jump to conclusions and be able to read news stories with a fair eye.
  • A message from the Facebook group “Phil Markoff is Innocent Until Proven Guilty” • The group, currently 218 members strong, is getting outsized media coverage considering its size. Tech: Classy: A Facebook group changes from pro-Jews to pro-Hitler

It baited and switched hundreds of people. Almost 2,000 people were shocked to find out that the group had changed its name from “I Heart Jews” to “Hitler: Great Modern Man of History.” (It appears to have been switched back now.) The video links to a local Fox news TV report that’s just a tad overwraught, even considering the sensitive nature of the material. source
