Sports: Brett Favre accepts his fate as a retired guy in Mississippi

  • It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made. I didn’t feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable. I would like to thank everyone, including the Packers, Jets and Vikings – but, most importantly, the fans.
  • Quarterback Brett Favre • Describing his decision to stay retired as opposed to trying to play for the Minnesota Vikings. Favre is kind of an old guy and has already retired twice, only to return once and nearly return a second time. Regarding the surgery that he went through in hopes of coming back, he says he realized it was time. “I have legitimate reasons for my decision,” he said. “I’m 39 with a lot of sacks to my name.” • source

“I’d like to thank the Packers, for whom I played the lion’s share of my hall-of-fame career but then strung them along for 5 consecutive off-seasons before officially retiring, then instead going to play in New York. I’d like to thank the Jets, in whom I created a false sense of blind hope last season before hitting the proverbial “wall” and absolutely tanking the last few weeks of the season, causing them to miss the playoffs. I’d also like to thank the Vikings, who I’ve just given one of the all-time cases of blue balls just because I like to see my name in the paper, even though they are a divisional rival to my old team. I’m simply that much of an a-hole, for real. Thanks everyone for putting up with all my diva sh*t for the last 16 months! I’m sure you’ll be hearing from me again. Maybe I can play in the WFL…
