Are we reaching a breakthrough point on the Washington Redskins’ name? The NFL has agreed to meet with a group, led by Oneida Indian Nation, that has launched a campaign against the team’s name—a campaign that got some support from President Barack Obama last week, when the president suggested that if he led the team, he would change its name. “It is hypocritical to say you’re America’s pastime but not represent the ideals of America,” said Ray Halbritter, the Oneida Indian Nation’s national representative, about the longstanding team name.
Sounds like progress. Then again, The New York Post still writes crap like this, so don’t get your hopes up.
