The U.S. Senate has officially passed the Violence Against Women Act.

  • 78 Senators voted to pass the Violence Against Women Act on Tuesday, sending the bill before the House of Representatives for final passage. President Obama has already promised to sign the bill once it is passed.
  • 22 Senators voted against the Violence Against Women Act, including Florida Republican Marco Rubio. Sen. Rubio is scheduled to deliver the GOP response to the State of the Union on Tuesday night; however, his stance on the VAWA could soon become problematic for a man that many see as the potential future of the Republican party. source
